I remember the first time I started shaving I was around 10 (very young bc girls are mean) I have dark hair that I wanted to get rid of (now love) but I had no idea how to shave! I would use my conditioner or dry shave which would cause me to have extreme razor bumps & irritated skin which made me feel even worse! As I got older I finally found the perfect concoction to have a clean smooth shave.
Exfoliating before shaving-🧖🏼♀️🌸🫧 Seems like an unnecessary step but I have noticed a difference in my skin & having a smoother shave
The Gillette Fusion 5 I swear by!! 🔥🙌🏼 I have never had a nick or razor bumps with these, they are on the pricier end but definitely worth it. I pair it with the classic razor gel, personally I like seeing the gel foam because it helps me not miss any spots.
BODY OIL!!! ☀️☁️✨I cannot stress this enough, sometimes our skin can be really angry while shaving & a thick heavy lotion can do more damage than good. I love using the oil to hydrate yet not be thick or irritating. I love the Saltair brand because It absorbs pretty well! 🤩 #lemon8partner#lemon8beauty#shavingroutine#shavingproducts#beauty#selfcare#bodycare

... Read moreOkay, so I already mentioned exfoliating, but seriously, it's a game-changer for achieving truly smooth legs! Think of it as prepping your canvas. When I started consistently using a gentle sugar scrub – yes, just like that lovely vanilla-scented one in the picture – I noticed a dramatic reduction in ingrown hairs, and my razor just glided effortlessly. Exfoliating buffs away all those dead skin cells that can trap hair, dull your skin, and even lead to those pesky razor bumps. It creates a much smoother, more even surface for your shave. I typically do this in the shower, focusing on areas prone to bumps or dryness. Just make sure not to overdo it, especially if you have sensitive skin – 2-3 times a week is usually plenty. This step is SO important, not just for immediate smoothness, but also if you’re thinking about applying self-tanner. A properly exfoliated base is key to an even, streak-free tan that lasts longer!
Beyond the amazing Gillette Fusion 5 razor (truly a holy grail for avoiding nicks and ensuring a close shave!), there’s a little technique that makes a huge difference in your shaving routine. Before you even touch the blade, make sure your skin is thoroughly wet and softened by warm water for a few minutes. Then, apply your shaving gel or cream generously, allowing it to create a rich lather – this provides a protective barrier and helps the razor glide. When you shave, always go with the grain first. This reduces tugging and irritation, especially vital if you have sensitive skin or are prone to razor burn. For that extra-close, silky feel, you can then reapply gel and carefully go against the grain, but listen to your skin! Always use light, gentle strokes, and remember to rinse your blade frequently under running water to keep it clear of hair and cream. A clean, sharp blade is your best friend for a smooth, bump-free result.
Now, after you've achieved that wonderfully smooth skin, the moisturizing step is absolutely non-negotiable. My love for body oil is real – it absorbs quickly without that sticky feeling, locking in moisture and giving you that healthy, luminous glow, just like the nourishing body oil with the purple pump shown in my routine. I find it much better than super thick lotions right after shaving, which can sometimes clog pores or feel heavy. Apply it immediately after stepping out of the shower while your skin is still slightly damp to really seal in the hydration.
For those of you wondering about shaving legs before self-tan, here’s my top tip that’s made all the difference: shave at least 12-24 hours before you plan to apply your self-tanner. Shaving opens up your pores and can make your skin a bit more sensitive. Applying tanner too soon can lead to little dark dots in your pores (the dreaded 'strawberry legs' look) or uneven, streaky patches because the product sinks in differently. Giving your skin a day to recover, calm down, and absorb that wonderful body oil ensures your skin is perfectly primed. This way, your self-tanner will go on smoothly and evenly, resulting in a flawless, natural-looking sun-kissed glow that you’ll love. The smoother and more hydrated your canvas is, the better your tan will look and last! Trust me, I've learned this the hard way! This comprehensive routine, from meticulous exfoliation to the perfect post-shave oil and strategic timing for self-tanning, ensures your legs are not just smooth, but truly prepped for anything, whether it's showing them off bare or getting that perfect, long-lasting sun-kissed glow.
