Kung-Fu Etiquete!!
The Importance of Kung Fu Etiquette
One of the first lessons we teach in Traditional Ng Ga Kuen Kung Fu is respect.
When students bow in and bow out, they are showing respect to the training floor, their instructors, their classmates, and the generations of Masters who have preserved this art before us.
A bow is more than a tradition—it is a symbol of humility, gratitude, discipline, and honor. It reminds us that true martial artists are not only strong in body, but also strong in character.
At Angels Black Tiger Martial Arts And Fitness , we teach our students that respect is earned, practiced, and carried both inside and outside the school.
"Respect the art. Respect the teacher. Respect your fellow students. Respect yourself."

Practicing Kung Fu etiquette goes far beyond formalities; it cultivates a mindset that transcends the training floor. From my own experience attending Traditional Ng Ga Kuen classes, the simple act of bowing in and out created a sense of mindfulness and respect for everyone involved – from instructors to fellow students, and even the lineage of Masters who preserved the art. One lesson that particularly stood out was the emphasis on being 'strong at ease.' This phrase embodies the balance between maintaining readiness and inner calm, a state highly regarded in Kung Fu practice. Bowing is not only a gesture of respect but a reminder to embody humility and gratitude in every movement. At Angels Black Tiger Martial Arts and Fitness, I appreciated how respect is presented as something to be earned and continuously practiced, both in class and everyday life. This approach helped me develop discipline and a warrior mindset centered on character development rather than just physical prowess. Moreover, the detailed focus on stances such as the 'relax stance' and 'attention stance' combined with the etiquette of bowing created a comprehensive framework for respectful training. Even beginners, including kids starting as young as four, are taught these values early, which fosters a strong community spirit rooted in honor and mutual respect. Overall, traditional Kung Fu etiquette isn't just about tradition; it cultivates a way of living that blends respect for the art, the teacher, fellow students, and oneself. Embracing these principles can enrich anyone’s martial arts journey and personal growth.
