Scythe & Sparrow🩵
Such a great book. Book 3/3 of The Ruinous Love Trilogy. They left it on a little note that a new spinoff series may happen!? I hope so!
Okay, so after finishing Scythe & Sparrow, I just had to share more of my thoughts. This book, the third in Brynne Weaver's The Ruinous Love Trilogy, truly delivered! If you’re like me and were eagerly awaiting the conclusion, you won't be disappointed. But let's dive a bit deeper into what made this read so impactful. First off, the characters. Oh my goodness, Fionn Kane! He is just... everything. His protectiveness over Sparrow, even when she's trying to push him away, is palpable. Reading those scenes where he's so worried about her, like when she's recovering from an injury and he's right there, constantly asking if she’s okay, even amidst the presence of nurses and the sterile environment, really gets to you. The tension, the longing for privacy, the way he steps in with concern when she’s vulnerable, it's all so perfectly written. And Sparrow herself! She’s incredibly resilient, even when she's scared to do anything but lie, you can feel her internal struggle and strength. The way the narrative highlights her fear but also her determination is powerful. Now, let's talk about trigger warnings because they are important with a book like this. Based on my reading and some of the intense moments, I'd definitely flag things like detailed injury descriptions (especially given the talk of a cast, scissors and skin, and the visceral experience of recovery), medical scenes, emotional manipulation, violence, and intense psychological distress. The themes can be quite dark, exploring trauma and difficult relationships, so definitely go in prepared. It’s part of what makes the story so gripping, but it’s not for everyone. The ending and epilogue of Scythe & Sparrow? Absolutely blew me away! I don't want to give away spoilers, but the way Brynne Weaver wrapped up the main arcs of The Ruinous Love Trilogy was incredibly satisfying. Yet, as the original post mentioned, there's that tantalizing hint of a new spin-off series! My heart literally jumped when I read that little note. I'm already envisioning potential storylines and whether we'll get to revisit some of our favorite characters or explore new ones in the same universe. The possibility of more stories makes the ending feel both conclusive and incredibly exciting. For those who love to see their favorite characters come to life, I can totally see why Scythe & Sparrow fanart is such a popular search. The imagery throughout the book, particularly the dynamic between Fionn and Sparrow, lends itself so well to artistic interpretation. I’m always on the lookout for amazing creations! Overall, Scythe & Sparrow is a phenomenal book that delivers a powerful punch. If you haven't picked up The Ruinous Love Trilogy by Brynne Weaver yet, you absolutely should – but maybe have some tissues ready and check those trigger warnings. It’s a wild, emotional ride, and I'm still reeling from it!
