The short story "Last Hug."
"Last hug."
....I don't want forgiveness...I just want you to remember how much I loved him.
I'm not sure what time it is, but I heard the rain from outside the window.
The smell of wet soil, it floats along a small high light channel that is almost to the ceiling.
I was sitting on the cold floor with a small cloth on it.
The back plate is damp, the sweat is both very cold.
Someone told me last night that
Tomorrow...I have to go.
He spoke to me in a smooth, emotionless voice, but I felt like something in him was shaking.
He didn't make eye contact for long.
And then the iron door closed, like the earth closed another door on me.
I couldn't sleep all night.
Not because of fear.
But because I miss you
I don't want him to grow up without a father.
I don't want him to lie to his classmates, "Dad's abroad."
I don't want my wife to use the word "death" when I'm still breathing.
I asked him not to come to me because every time I saw it, it was like I was punished again.
Saw a little more in his grown-up eyes but didn't hug him.
Didn't shake hands.
Just look through the mirror.
Every time my wife turned around,
She cried.
She's depressed.
She's impatient.
But she never cried to me.
Seems to say that
"Don't feel any more guilty."
Today they're gonna pick me up.
People who still have blood in them.
The heart is still beating.
The pulse is still normal.
But it is pre-written to "end of life."
I don't think I'm innocent.
But I don't think anyone deserves to be forgotten...
Especially in the last seconds of my life.
I want you to remember me
"I used to hold you every night until my back got hurt.
I used to sing to my children until I fell asleep. "I want my wife to remember that
"I kissed her forehead softly every time before leaving home, even though I didn't have a job that day."
And if someone was standing in the courtyard that day,
Please look at my eyes for a second...
Don't forgive.
Don't understand.
Just know...A person who once had a family who loved so much that he could starve for his wife...
Dying quietly.
Without even the opportunity to hug a loved one one one one last time............
"Synthetic man."
