✨ How I Study for Nursing School ✨

Using NotebookLM has completely changed the way I study. I upload my class notes straight into the app (or the website!) and it automatically creates podcasts, quizzes, and flashcards based on my material. It makes reviewing so much easier and keeps everything organized in one place.

After I go through my NotebookLM quizzes and flashcards, I switch to Active Recall on my whiteboard. I talk through the material out loud, try to repeat it without looking, and only peek back at my notes when I need a refresher. Once it clicks, I rewrite everything from memory on my whiteboard — that’s when it really sticks.

This routine has helped me absorb information so much faster and actually retain it. If you want a deeper dive into how I study, I share more of my methods on my YouTube channel where I break everything down step-by-step. 💛📚✨

... Read moreI know the struggle, fellow nursing students! The sheer volume of information we have to learn, from pathophysiology to pharmacology, can feel overwhelming. That's exactly why I started looking for smarter study tools, and that's when I stumbled upon NotebookLM. Think of this as my honest review, specifically for how it's become my lifeline in nursing school. Before NotebookLM, my notes were a scattered mess. I'd have a dozen different notebooks, printed PowerPoints, and random digital files. Reviewing felt like an archaeological dig. NotebookLM changed everything by allowing me to upload all my class notes – no matter the format – into one central hub. This is a game-changer for nursing, where we're constantly juggling multiple systems and topics. Imagine having all your pediatric nursing notes, adult health notes, and pharmacology all searchable and organized in one place. It truly paves the way for "Study Smarter," as I like to think about it. The real magic, especially for complex nursing topics, lies in its automatic features. Once my notes are uploaded, NotebookLM instantly generates quizzes, flashcards, and even podcasts based on *my specific material*. For conditions like Glomerulonephritis, Nephrosis, or even more straightforward ones like UTIs, I can quickly test myself on causes, symptoms, and treatments. Instead of making flashcards manually, which takes precious time, I get them instantly. This allows me to focus on learning rather than repetitive note-taking or card creation. The quizzes are fantastic for identifying knowledge gaps before exams, especially when dealing with detailed medical terminology and interventions. This seamlessly integrates with my active recall whiteboard method. NotebookLM helps me build that initial foundation and identify what I think I know. Then, I take that knowledge to my whiteboard. I'll challenge myself to explain the pathophysiology of Hypospadius or the nursing interventions for Phimosis solely from memory. If I get stuck, I can quickly refer back to my NotebookLM notes, get a quick refresher, and then try again. This active engagement, forcing myself to recall and articulate, is where the information truly solidifies. My whiteboard, covered in notes on these conditions, is a testament to how well this combined approach works. From my experience, the biggest 'pro' of NotebookLM for nursing students is undoubtedly the time it saves and the organization it provides. It streamlines the review process, making it less daunting. The tools it offers inherently promote active learning, which is proven to be more effective than passive reading. On the 'con' side, it does take a little time to get used to the interface, and the quality of its generated content is only as good as the notes you upload – so clear, well-structured notes are still key! My top tip for maximizing NotebookLM in nursing school? Be consistent with uploading your notes after each lecture. Don't wait until exam season. Use the flashcards daily for quick reviews of drug names or lab values. And don't shy away from using the podcasts feature when you're commuting or doing chores – it's amazing how much you can absorb passively when it's your own notes being read to you. This combination has helped me not just pass, but truly feel confident in my understanding of the material, making my journey through nursing school much more manageable and, dare I say, enjoyable.
