If you're looking for high protein meals that are delish as they are healthy, save this recipe for next time you want to make lunch for the week.
Here's how I make the tuna:
- I eyeball the sushi mayo, sriracha & soy sauce. I mainly add a splash of soy sauce because I don't want too much sodium & I add in a lot of sriracha because | like spicy S the sushi mayo can be substituted for regular mayo but if you want to add a subtle sweetness the sushi mayo will do that for you.
Veggie prep:
- I prepare the avocados to be sliced so that it looks fancy in my bowl
- for the mini cucumbers I cut them in half & peel out the insides so that they're like little boats. & & that way I can stuff them with tuna, rice & avocado
Ingredients:
- canned tuna in water 🐟

When I first started meal prepping, I wanted recipes that were not only quick but also delicious and nutritious, and this spicy tuna sushi bowl quickly became one of my favorites. The key to balancing flavor and health is in the ingredients: using canned tuna in water keeps it lean and protein-packed, while the combination of sushi mayo and sriracha adds just the right amount of creaminess and heat without overwhelming the dish. One tip I learned is to be mindful of the soy sauce quantity. Using low sodium soy sauce helps keep the meal heart-healthy by reducing sodium intake, which is especially important when eating such meals regularly during the week. Also, when preparing the mini cucumbers, removing the seeds to create little boats really elevates the presentation and texture, making it feel special even if you're eating on the go. The choice of rice greatly impacts convenience and taste. I personally love using jasmine rice in BPA-free pouches that cook in about 90 seconds; it saves so much time while delivering that authentic aromatic fragrance that complements the spicy tuna perfectly. For an extra touch, a drizzle of sweet chili sauce on top adds a contrast of sweetness and slight tang that ties all the flavors together beautifully. In terms of nutrition, this bowl is high in protein, healthy fats from avocado, and fresh veggies, making it a balanced meal. It also adapts well to your personal taste—if you prefer less heat, simply reduce the sriracha or swap out sushi mayo for regular mayo to tone down the spice and add a subtle sweetness. Overall, this spicy tuna sushi bowl is great for anyone looking to meal prep flavorful lunches that feel indulgent yet wholesome. Give it a try and tweak the sauce ratios to find your perfect balance—it’s a wonderful way to enjoy sushi flavors without the hassle or expense of eating out.
