Charmander Gets Deleted by Pidgeot’s Hurricane
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX is full of chaos, but nothing prepared me for this. My Charmander went from full HP to zero in one Hurricane from Pidgeot — instant regret, instant comedy. This is why I call it side character energy: one second you’re the hero, the next you’re deleted. Follow along for more Pokémon fails, clutch wins, and dungeon chaos.

That moment when your beloved starter, your supposed main character, gets absolutely blindsided! I totally get it. My Charmander's instant deletion by Pidgeot's Hurricane in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon DX felt like 'this wasn't a battle... this was a crime scene.' It makes you wonder, are we truly ready for the chaos that these dungeons throw at us? Playing as Charmander in Mystery Dungeon can be incredibly fun, but it definitely comes with its unique set of challenges. As a Fire-type, you're a powerhouse against Grass, Ice, Bug, and Steel types. However, you're also vulnerable. Water, Ground, and Rock moves can hit you hard. And, as I painfully learned, Flying-type moves like Hurricane, especially from a powerful Pidgeot, can completely wipe you out if your defenses aren't up to snuff or if you're caught off guard. I remember thinking, 'Wh...what?!' as my HP bar vanished. It was a true 'Oh no!' moment. So, how do we protect our fiery companions from such sudden, devastating attacks? Based on my own dungeon crawling experiences, here are a few tips I've picked up: Understand Type Matchups (and weaknesses!): This is paramount. Always be aware of the types of Pokémon in the dungeons you're exploring. If you know you're heading into an area with a lot of Water or Flying types, consider bringing a partner who can cover those weaknesses. A Grass or Electric type partner can be a lifesaver. Stat Boosters are Your Friends: Don't underestimate the power of vitamins and Gummis! Pumping up Charmander's Defense and Special Defense can make a huge difference in survivability. Even a small boost can prevent a one-hit KO from those super-effective moves. Strategic Item Usage: Oran Berries, Reviver Seeds, and status-healing items are essential. If you anticipate a tough fight, don't be afraid to use an Oran Berry before your HP gets critical. Reviver Seeds are a no-brainer for boss fights or particularly dangerous floors. Linked Moves: Linking moves can be incredibly powerful for burst damage, but also consider linking defensive moves or status-inflicting moves. For Charmander, linking something like Smokescreen with Ember could reduce incoming damage before you launch your main attack. Corridor Tactics: Dungeons are often about managing space. Try to fight in corridors where you can only be attacked from one side. This prevents you from being surrounded and overwhelmed, giving you more control over who your Charmander is facing. Evolve Early (if possible!): While not always an option early game, evolving Charmander into Charmeleon and then Charizard significantly boosts its stats and movepool, making it much more resilient. The sooner you can get those stat bumps, the better. It's those unexpected moments, like my Charmander's dramatic exit, that make Pokémon Mystery Dungeon so memorable and, let's be honest, sometimes infuriating. But it's also why we keep coming back for more. We learn, we adapt, and we try to make sure our beloved Pokémon don't become another 'crime scene' statistic. What strategies do you use to keep your starter safe?
