Charmander Art
So as promised, here is my art I made my hubby. I originally made it in my sketchbook with colored pencils. But after I got into digital art, I remade it and made it into a special shiny version for him ^-^
As an artist and a huge Pokémon fan, creating art of my favorite creatures brings me so much joy. My recent project, a Charmander drawing, was particularly special because it evolved from a traditional sketch to a vibrant digital artwork, and I can't wait to share my process and tips with you! When I first set out to draw Charmander, my goal was to capture its iconic charm. I started with a traditional drawing, using colored pencils on sketchbook paper. For any aspiring artist wondering how to draw Charmander, I always recommend starting with its basic anatomy. Think of its head as a slightly elongated circle and its body as an oval. The key is to blend these shapes smoothly. I focused on getting the 'Charmander belly' just right – that distinctive lighter area on its stomach gives it so much character. The flame on its tail, a crucial element, was brought to life with a bright orange, reflecting its fiery spirit. This transition isn't just about changing tools; it's about reimagining your artwork. For the digital drawing of the shiny Charmander, the color palette shifted dramatically. Instead of the classic orange, I opted for a sleek dark grey for its skin, which instantly gives it that rare, shiny appearance. To make it pop even more, I used a bright green for its belly and a vibrant green for the flame on its tail. The contrast is simply striking! When creating digital art, especially for a shiny Pokémon, layers are your best friend. I use separate layers for outlines, base colors, shading, and highlights. This allows for precise control and easy adjustments. For the shiny Charmander's dark grey skin, I experimented with cooler tones for shading to give it depth, and I added subtle highlights to make it look like light was reflecting off its smooth scales. The vibrant green flame was a joy to create; I played with glow effects and slightly lighter greens at the core of the flame to give it an ethereal, powerful look that truly embodies the 'vibrant green flame' described in the original. This really makes the flame look dynamic and alive, a defining feature of any good Charmander art.
