I may be overly harsh on this one, because really it was such a good read. I think when you love something, though, that comes with criticisms inherently. And I LOVE Diana and I loved seeing a strong female F1 driver. So I also wanted better from her and for her at points. That doesn't take away from the fact that I thought overall it was a really good book and worth a read if a F1 driver fmc × f1 driver mmc is interesting to you.
... Read moreHey bookworms and F1 fanatics! If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re curious about Esha Patel's 'Offtrack.' My quick review barely scratched the surface, so let's really dive into what makes this F1 romance tick – and perhaps where it stumbled a little for me.
First off, the premise itself is gold: Diana Zahrani, Formula One’s first female driver. How cool is that?! I absolutely adored seeing her navigate the male-dominated world of F1, showcasing her skill, determination, and grit. The 'EMIRATI & DRIVER FMC' aspect mentioned in the book's description really shines through, giving her character a unique depth and cultural background that I haven't seen much of in this genre. Her journey felt empowering, and as an F1 fan, I was completely invested in her racing career.
Then there’s Miguel de la Fuente, the reigning championship favorite and Diana’s arch-rival. The 'rivals to lovers' trope is one of my absolute favorites, and 'Offtrack' delivers on the tension and competitiveness. The 'DUAL POV' was fantastic for getting into both their heads, allowing us to see their internal struggles and growing attraction. The sparks definitely flew on and off the track, making for some truly exhilarating moments. You can really feel the intensity of the F1 world, from the roar of the engines to the high-stakes races, which is a huge plus for those of us who live for race weekends.
Now, for the 'criticisms' I briefly mentioned. While I loved the setup, I did find myself wishing the romance felt a bit more earned. Sometimes, the transition from fierce rivals to passionate lovers felt a tad rushed or, as some might say, a little 'unrealistic romance' for my taste. Don't get me wrong, the chemistry is there, but I craved a bit more build-up in their emotional connection outside of the racing drama. It’s a common challenge with this trope, and while it didn't ruin the book for me, it was something I noticed.
So, who should pick up 'Offtrack'? If you’re a die-hard F1 fan looking for a romance that’s deeply embedded in the racing world, with a strong, pioneering female lead, this is definitely for you. If you adore the 'rivals to lovers' dynamic, especially with the added spice of high-octane competition, you'll likely devour this. It's a solid 4-star read in my book, despite my minor quibbles.
And if you enjoy Esha Patel's writing, you might be interested to know she has other books like 'Trauma Queen,' 'Florida's Finest,' and 'Young and Dumb.' While I haven't read them all yet, it's always fun to explore more from an author whose work resonates with you. 'Offtrack' gave me a glimpse into her ability to craft engaging stories, and I'm keen to see what else she offers.
Ultimately, 'Offtrack' is a thrilling ride through the world of Formula One, blended with a compelling romance. It’s a book that sparks conversation, and whether you agree with my minor criticisms or not, it’s undeniably an exciting read that puts a strong woman at the heart of the racing action. Give it a go and let me know your thoughts!
