Appendicular Skeleton🩺

2024/6/26 Edited to

... Read moreThe appendicular skeleton is a fundamental part of the human skeletal system, composed of 126 bones that support movement and interaction with the environment. From my experience learning about this system, I found it fascinating how each bone contributes to our mobility and strength. The upper limb consists of 30 bones per side, including the humerus, radius, ulna, carpals (wrist bones), metacarpals (palm bones), and phalanges (digits). One interesting feature is the glenoid cavity on the scapula, where the humerus head articulates, allowing for a wide range of motion in the shoulder. Equally important is the lower limb, also containing 30 bones per leg. This includes the coxal bone, femur (the longest bone in the body), tibia, fibula, tarsals (ankle bones), metatarsals, and phalanges. I was intrigued by the patella, a cup-shaped bone that protects the knee, which plays a critical role in leg extension and stability. Understanding the acetabulum—a cavity in the fused coxal bones—gave me a clearer picture of how the thigh bone connects securely to the pelvis, reflecting the complexity and efficiency of human anatomy. For anyone studying biology or simply curious about the body, recognizing these bones and their functions enhances appreciation of how our limbs support everyday activities.
