day 1 of me doing my own hair ✨🍋

i thought i could do a braided ponytail but i just did a bun. doing my own hair is no joke my arms were burning bad 😂 here’s the original situation to how my stylist scammed me https://v.lemon8-app.com/s/OgUvQpZfwm here on my page #doingmyhair #wiginfluencer #hairstyles

... Read moreSo, you've seen my 'day 1 of me doing my own hair' post and probably thought, 'Wow, that sounds relatable!' Believe me, it absolutely is. Trying to learn to do your own hair after relying on stylists can be a huge leap, and it's totally normal for your arms to feel like they've run a marathon, just like mine did trying to conquer that braided ponytail! It's all part of the journey to becoming a 'master of my own' hair. And honestly, after the whole 'money hungry' situation with my last stylist, I'm more motivated than ever to take control. For anyone else out there wondering how to do your hair or even considering taking the plunge like I did, here are a few things I'm learning and what I wish I knew before my first solo styling session. First, manage your expectations. I went in thinking I could whip up a complex style, but quickly realized a simple bun was a victory for Day 1. Start with basic styles – a sleek low bun, a simple high ponytail, or even just mastering a neat part can build your confidence. Don't feel pressured to create salon-worthy looks from the get-go. The goal is to 'learn to do your hair' in a way that feels achievable for you right now. Next, invest in good tools. I'm quickly realizing that having the right brushes, combs, clips, and even a good mirror setup (maybe a three-way mirror if you're serious!) can make a world of difference. It's much harder to get those tricky angles when you're just relying on your bathroom mirror. Also, consider the products you're using. A good detangler, heat protectant, and styling cream suited for your hair type can really help your efforts stick. For me, finding the right edge control for my bun was a game-changer! Don't underestimate the power of a good hair tie that won't snag. Patience is truly a virtue when you're learning to do your hair. There will be days when it feels like nothing is going right, and you'll miss your old stylist (even if they were 'money hungry' like mine turned out to be!). But remember why you started this journey – perhaps you want to save money, have more control over your look, or simply enjoy the process of self-care. Each attempt, whether it results in a perfect braid or a slightly messy bun, is a step forward. Another tip I've picked up is to watch a lot of tutorials. Seriously, YouTube and Lemon8 are treasure troves of information. Seeing someone else demonstrate how to hold the hair, how to section it, or even just how to expertly wrap a bun makes a huge difference. I like to watch a video, then pause it and try each step. It’s a slow process, but it helps immensely. And don't be afraid to experiment with different techniques. What works for one person might not work for your hair type or length, so be open to trying various methods to see what clicks for you. This journey is about finding your way to master your hair. I'm only on Day 1, but I'm already seeing the value in embracing this challenge. It’s empowering to know that I’m taking steps towards being completely self-sufficient with my hair, saving money, and exploring new styles on my own terms. So, if you're asking yourself, 'how should I do my hair today?' and feel overwhelmed, just start small. Maybe pick one simple style you want to achieve this week, gather your tools, and give yourself grace. I'm excited to see how I 'learn to do your hair' over time, and I hope you join me on this adventure!
