Taking a 4-month-old to the beach for the first time is such a memorable experience, but it definitely comes with its own set of challenges and preparations! For babies under six months, many pediatricians advise against sunscreen, so physical barriers like shade and protective clothing (like a light, long-sleeleeved romper or rash guard) are your best friends. I also kept a light blanket handy to drape over her carrier or stroller for extra shade when moving around. Hydration is another key factor. For breastfed babies, frequent nursing sessions are important, as they might need to feed more often in the warmer beach environment. If your baby is formula-fed, bring pre-measured formula and plenty of cool, filtered water to mix it with. Keeping bottles cool in an insulated bag is crucial. I found it helpful to offer a feeding every couple of hours, even if she didn't seem overtly hungry, just to ensure she stayed hydrated. Comfort and naptime on the beach can be tricky, but it's totally doable.
