So, I wanted to dive a bit deeper into my experience with these awesome tools, especially my go-to PAINT PENS! When I first started experimenting with markers, I was a bit intimidated. Unlike alcohol markers, acrylic markers tend to be more opaque, so blending directly on the paper can be a bit different. What I usually do is apply a base color, let it dry for a few seconds, and then layer a slightly darker shade on top to create shadows and depth. For highlights, a White gel Pen is an absolute must-have! It pops beautifully over the dried marker ink, giving that realistic shine, especially on something glossy like lips. Another thing I learned quickly is the importance of a good surface. I use a Grabie Drawing Pad, which has a smooth, thick paper that prevents bleed-through and allows the colors to sit beautifully on top without feathering. If your paper is too thin, the ink might spread or seep through, which can be frustrating. Don't be afraid to sketch your design lightly with a pencil first. This gives you a roadmap, especially when you're drawing something symmetrical like lips. Once your pencil sketch is down, you can confidently go over it with your markers. Start with your lightest colors first, building up to the darker tones. This approach helps you maintain control and prevents accidentally darkening areas too much too soon. For those asking about other subjects to try with markers: beyond lips, I love drawing simple botanicals, cute characters, or even abstract patterns. The key to making your marker art pop is contrast and clean lines. So, practice those steady strokes! Clean your marker tips after use if they get residue, especially if you're layering light over dark. This keeps your colors pure and extends the life of your beloved PAINT PENS!
