Color my drawing with me!☕️💚

Hey everyone! So many of you have been curious about my process, especially when it comes to bringing my character drawings to life. I absolutely love sitting down to color this drawing with me, and today I wanted to share a bit more about how I tackled my 'Peppermint Green Tea Girl'! It's such a relaxing and rewarding part of the art journey. When I first started this piece, I knew I wanted to capture that fresh, vibrant green tea vibe. For character art, especially a girl drawing, I always begin with a light sketch to get the pose and proportions just right. For this particular drawing, I opted for a more illustrative style, focusing on clean lines before diving into the color. My go-to choice for bold, smooth color is often alcohol markers, and my Ohuhu markers were perfect for this. When you're doing drawing alcohol marker art, blending is key! I usually start with the lightest shade in an area and then layer darker shades on top, blending them out with the lighter color or even a colorless blender. For the skin tones on my Green Tea Girl, I built up several layers to create a soft, natural look, always working from light to dark to avoid harsh lines. It's a bit of a dance, finding just the right pressure and speed to get those seamless transitions. This technique really helps make the colors pop without looking streaky. For her signature peppermint green tea hair and outfit, I used various shades of green. Layering different greens from my Ohuhu set gave it depth and dimension. This is one of my favorite things to draw with alcohol markers – gradients and flowing textures. They just glide on so beautifully! Once the alcohol markers laid down the base colors, I switched over to my Arteza/Prizma Colored Pencils. These are fantastic for adding finer details and textures that alcohol markers might miss. For instance, I used them to define strands of hair, add subtle blush to her cheeks, and create sharper edges on the clothing folds. The white Grabie Paint Pen was my secret weapon for those tiny, sparkling highlights in her eyes and on her lips, truly making her features stand out. And of course, having a good Nicpro pencil Set for the initial sketch and any final touches is a must. Working on Strathmore Bristol paper (9x12) is also a game-changer for this type of drawing. It's thick and smooth, which is ideal for alcohol markers as it prevents bleeding and allows for better blending. If you're looking for things to draw with alcohol markers, I highly recommend starting with characters or even simple objects where you can practice blending. Don't be afraid to experiment with different color combinations. The joy of drawing alcohol marker art is in the vibrant results you can achieve.
