around this time last year I was mentally preparing for a New Year's resolution by ordering this guided journal from p.louise. to be honest this journal was so daunting to look at - it's literally bigger than my Bible lol. not only that, I can't even tell you how many pen refills I went through this year🤣 but I still made a promise to myself to journal every day this year and somehow I was able to avoid giving up on it. there were a few times I really wanted to not care about it, but I'm glad that I stuck it out and proved those feelings wrong by reflecting on them along the way. I bought their pink version of this same journal this year and I intend on keeping this new habit going strong. the daily, weekly, and monthly reflections have been so helpful for me getting through this year because of has honestly been pretty challenging. regular reflecting has helped increase my self awareness and honestly encouraged me to dream again for my future, something I haven't been able to do in a long time for reasons that would take too long to list in here.
I still can't believe I made it through this entire year sticking to a resolution I made in January, I don't think I've ever kept any resolutions in the past longer than maybe a few months. I'll be continuing on this journey of growth and self discovery in 2025, so I'm excited to see what else I can do in the new year.
... Read moreIt’s a new year, and like many of you, I’ve faced the frustration of New Year's resolutions that just… didn't stick. We start with such high hopes, dreaming of becoming a true 'Goal Getter' and the 'CEO of our own life,' ready to rock that 'new year, new me' transformation. But let’s be honest, how often do those grand plans actually pan out beyond January? If your past resolutions have ended in failure, you’re not alone. I’ve been there, and after years of trying, I've learned that a truly proven approach isn't just about willpower; it’s about strategy.
One of the biggest game-changers for me was understanding how to set goals that are actually achievable. Forget vague ideas like "get fit" or "be happier." Instead, I started using the SMART framework: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. For instance, instead of "lose weight," I'd reframe it as "walk 30 minutes, 5 times a week, for the next 3 months." This makes it concrete and trackable, which is essential for seeing progress.
Breaking down larger goals into smaller, daily habits has also been incredibly effective. My journey with daily journaling, as I shared, wasn't about writing a novel every day. It was about showing up, even for just a few minutes. This consistent effort, day after day, is what builds momentum and makes big goals feel less daunting. Think about your 'new year, new me' body goal: instead of aiming for a drastic overhaul, what small, consistent action can you take today? Maybe it’s swapping one sugary drink for water, or doing ten squats while waiting for your coffee. These tiny wins add up.
Another crucial tip I picked up is the power of reflection and adjustment. Just like the daily, weekly, and monthly reflections I mentioned, regularly checking in on your progress helps you stay accountable. Are you on track? What obstacles are you facing? How can you adapt your approach? This isn't about beating yourself up; it's about learning and refining your strategy. My journal became my personal coach, helping me celebrate small victories and troubleshoot challenges before they derailed me completely. It truly helped me increase my self-awareness and keep pushing forward.
Don't underestimate the role of your environment and support system. I found that having visual reminders, like a dedicated journal, or even just talking to a friend about my goals, made a huge difference. If you're aiming for a 'new me' in terms of health, perhaps finding an exercise buddy or signing up for a class could provide that extra push.
Ultimately, sticking to New Year's resolutions isn't about perfection; it's about persistence and having a flexible, proven plan. By embracing goal-setting strategies, fostering small daily habits, and using tools like journaling for consistent reflection, you too can move past resolution failures and truly become the 'Goal Getter' you aspire to be. It's about taking control, becoming the 'CEO of your own life,' and making those 'new year, new me' dreams a reality, one intentional step at a time.
