Decided I’d post my tattoos after getting my fourth one today. I keep all my tattoos with deep meaning to be able to cherish them forever.
Each has a deeper meaning than what I was able to fit on the screen. if you’re interested in the tattoo meaning, leave a comment and I’ll reply in a deeper level
... Read moreIt’s truly amazing how a piece of art on your skin can hold so much personal history and emotion, isn't it? As someone who cherishes every single one of my tattoos for the stories they tell, I often get asked about the process of choosing something so permanent. For me, it always comes back to meaning – that deep, personal connection that makes the ink a part of you, not just a design.
When I look at my 'Angel holding amaryllises' tattoo, for instance, it’s not just a beautiful image. It’s a warm hug from my grandparents, a blend of their individual loves that brings them together on my arm. Similarly, the 'Buck and baby deer' piece, with those significant dates (01/22/1929-10/18/2004), is a constant, loving reminder of my grandpa. These aren't just designs; they're anchors to my past, celebrating the people who shaped me.
But meaning isn't always about remembrance. Sometimes, it’s about celebrating who you are or what you love right now. My 'Vine wrap with snowdrops' tattoo, for example, started because I genuinely loved the aesthetic. Yet, knowing snowdrops are one of January’s birth flowers, it evolved into a subtle nod to my own birth month, making it even more special. It shows how even a design chosen for its 'vibe' can take on a deeper, personal layer.
And then there are the tattoos that connect us to our passions and even to others. My 'Tatooine binary suns' tattoo is a perfect example. Growing up, Star Wars was a comfort series, a shared joy with my brother. Getting a matching one wasn't just about my love for the saga; it was about that bond, that shared nostalgia. It's a little piece of my childhood, and our sibling connection, permanently etched.
So, how do I go about finding these meaningful designs? It’s a journey, really. I spend a lot of time reflecting on what truly resonates with me at a particular point in my life. Is there a person I want to honor? A significant event I want to commemorate? A passion I want to express? Sometimes, I start with an image or a symbol, and then I dig into its potential meanings, seeing how it aligns with my own experiences. Other times, the meaning comes first, and then I work with an artist to bring that abstract concept to life in a visual way.
My biggest advice for anyone considering new ink is to really sit with your ideas. Don't rush the process. Think about what will still hold significance for you years down the line. A tattoo doesn't just decorate your skin; it tells a story, your story. And that, to me, is the most beautiful part of collecting ink. What stories do your tattoos tell? I’d love to hear about the meanings behind yours!
