Trusting in God

Hey everyone! I’ve been really diving deep into my faith lately, and a question that keeps coming up is, ‘What’s the real difference between just believing in God and truly trusting Him?’ On the surface, they might seem similar, but I’ve found there’s a profound distinction that has totally changed how I approach my spiritual walk. For me, belief often feels like acknowledging a fact. It’s knowing in my head that God exists, that He is powerful, and that His promises in the Bible are true. It’s saying, "Yes, I believe God is who He says He is." It’s the foundation, like knowing a bridge is structurally sound. But *trust*? That's where things get real. Trust is actually *walking across that bridge*, even when it looks wobbly or when you can't see the other side through the fog. The OCR from my notes really hit home when it said, "TRUST more than feelings." How often do my feelings or current circumstances try to tell me something different from what God's Word says? All the time! If I just believe God is good, but then panic when things go wrong, am I truly trusting Him? Trust means making a conscious "choice to have faith in what God says, even when your life on your feelings or circumstances would have you believe something different." It’s an active surrender, not just passive agreement. So, how do we move from simple belief to active trust? I've been trying to incorporate a few things into my daily life, inspired by some timeless wisdom: Seek Truth in Scripture: This is huge! The more I read His Word, the more I understand His character and His promises. It builds my confidence in His "reliability, truth, ability, or strength." It’s like gathering evidence that He’s trustworthy. Confess Unbelief: This might sound counterintuitive, but for me, acknowledging my doubts to God in prayer has been freeing. He's not "disappointed or frustrated with your struggles." It's okay to admit when I'm struggling to trust, and that honesty actually opens the door for Him to strengthen my faith. Share Concerns with Community: Leaning on my faith community has been a lifeline. When I'm feeling overwhelmed, sharing my struggles with trusted friends who can remind me of God's faithfulness really helps reinforce my trust in Him. Spend Time with God: Just like any relationship, trust grows with intimacy. Through prayer and quiet reflection, I’m learning to hear His voice and feel His presence, which makes it easier to "wait on the Lord" and rely on Him. Look for Things to Be Grateful For: Even in difficult times, intentionally finding things to be thankful for shifts my perspective. It reminds me of His past faithfulness, which builds my trust for the future. Walk in the Holy Spirit: This means actively asking for His guidance and strength daily. It’s not just believing He can help, but trusting Him enough to let Him lead. Ultimately, learning the "trust and believe difference" has transformed my prayer life and my approach to challenges. It’s an ongoing journey, but embracing active trust has brought so much more peace and stability than just intellectual belief ever could. I hope this helps you too!
