Day 1 of building one app everyday for 12 days

Today I built an app to help me automate IG meme reel creation. It took 2 hours from start to finish using AI coding tools. I share details of the build + tool summary in the post.

My rule was to stop being so precious about the ideas and ship them. I trust that I’ll add polish and perfect things as part of the process.

Are you building something too? Lmk what you’re building.

p.s. if you wanna try the tool, please do (it’s free).

... Read moreIt's so exciting to see how quickly you can bring an idea to life these days, especially with AI! I totally get that feeling of wanting to build something but not knowing where to start, or feeling like your ideas aren't 'big' enough. But honestly, the best way to get going is to just start *shipping*! Like my own challenge to build 12 projects in 12 days, it's all about momentum. One of the biggest hurdles for beginners is often just coming up with simple app ideas for beginners. My best tip? Look at your own daily life! What are those tiny, repetitive tasks that annoy you? For me, it was automating my Instagram meme reel creation – something I needed for marketing my SaaS app. Suddenly, a personal pain point turns into a highly useful app idea! Don't overthink it; even something that helps you manage your daily to-do list, track a habit (like an AI stoic coach app daily voice notes habit tracking feature), or even a small utility like a custom scripture app builder, can be a fantastic starting point. The goal isn't perfection from day one, it's to solve a real, even if small, problem. And here's where AI becomes your secret weapon! I literally went from concept to a working Instagram reel generator in just two hours thanks to AI coding tools. These tools are game-changers. They can help you generate code snippets, suggest database structures, or even write entire functions based on your natural language descriptions. You don't need to be a coding wizard; you just need to know what you want to achieve. For my reel generator, I outlined features like 'upload four images,' 'write captions,' and 'select an animation style,' and then used AI to help with the underlying code to 'generate video.' It's like having a super-fast assistant who knows all the coding languages. This is how you create those 'power apps examples' you see, even as a beginner. The key, as I learned from this challenge, is embracing the 'ship to production' mentality quickly. Don't get stuck perfecting every pixel or line of code. My Instagram reel generator wasn't perfect on day one, and I even mentioned in my original post that I didn't love the preview design. But it *worked*. It fulfilled its core purpose. The rule for my daily builds is to improve the project later, but first, just 'ship something new every day.' This rapid iteration helps you learn so much faster than spending weeks on a single, unreleased project. You get real-world feedback, you build confidence, and you start seeing what's truly useful. So, if you're thinking about building, just pick one of those 'useful app ideas' you've been sitting on. Break it down into its absolute simplest form – what's the one core function it absolutely must do? Then, grab some AI coding tools, dedicate an hour or two, and just try to build that core feature. You'll be amazed at what you can 'ship new project every day' with a little focus and the right tools. I'm already excited about what's next for day two! What kind of app are you dreaming of building, or perhaps already working on? Let's inspire each other!
