Taking your own food will not only help your wallet 💸 but it will also help you stay on track with your fitness goals! You can easily take food through TSA as long as it’s not liquid, AND you can even take ice packs if they’re frozen!

From my own experience, packing your own snacks not only saves money but also keeps you on track with your nutrition goals even on busy travel days. When preparing snacks for your trip, focusing on balanced macros—carbs, proteins, and healthy fats—is key. For carbs, rice cakes, fresh fruit like apples or berries, granola, and even instant oats you can prepare with hot water from airport cafes are excellent. Dried fruit packs a sweet punch and is very portable. Protein is essential to keep you full longer, so I always pack protein powder in baggies, beef jerky (I recommend brands without added sugar), cooked chicken pieces, hard-boiled egg whites, protein bars, or deli meats. For healthy fats, nuts, nut butter packets (avoid jars for TSA ease), dark chocolate, and avocado or hard-boiled eggs work great. A useful tip I’ve learned is that TSA allows frozen ice packs to keep your snacks cool, which means you can safely bring perishable items like hard-boiled eggs or chicken. Using meal prep containers or resealable baggies helps keep everything organized and fresh. Also, consider the size of your carry-on, as some snack bags count as part of your allowance. Planning ahead helps avoid last-minute unhealthy purchases and stomach discomfort. One travel snack I swear by is Alyssa’s oatmeal bites—a convenient, homemade option combining carbs and protein to keep me energized. I invite you to share your go-to airport snack!
