... Read moreAs a parent navigating the postpartum period, I can totally relate to feeling like "my brain has left the station"—it's as if the moment you hold your baby, your ability to have normal conversations takes a back seat. This mental fog, often called postpartum brain fog, is surprisingly common among new moms. It can manifest as forgetfulness, difficulty focusing, trouble finding words, or simply feeling mentally overwhelmed. From my experience, one of the biggest triggers is lack of sleep combined with the constant attention a baby demands. Sleep deprivation disrupts cognitive functions, making even simple conversations feel exhausting. Early days with a newborn blur together, and recalling details or engaging deeply in discussions becomes a real challenge. Another factor is the flood of new hormones and emotional shifts that postpartum moms face. These can affect memory and mental clarity. Plus, the shift in priorities means your brain is often multitasking on high alert—monitoring the baby, planning feedings, and managing household tasks—which can drain mental bandwidth. Interestingly, many moms on social media, like #momsoftiktok and #momtok, share humorous yet honest takes on this phenomenon, helping others feel less alone. It’s empowering to recognize that brain fog is a natural phase, not a personal failing. To cope, I found that shorter, more focused conversations work better during this time. Also, practicing mindfulness and allowing yourself grace can reduce the pressure. As time goes on and your body adjusts, the fog usually lifts, and your "brain leaving the station" feeling fades. If you’re going through this, remember, it’s a shared experience among parents, and you’re definitely not alone. Embracing these moments with humor and support can make the transition into motherhood a little easier.

Raise your hand if your body clocked in this morning but your brain is already somewhere with a pool view and a fruity drink in hand. 🙋‍♀️ Honestly the fact that we can want something different so badly and still show up every single day says a lot about us… We are not wired to just settle.
