My First Time At This Historic 1950s Diner 🍳☕️

If you’re into cozy nostalgic spots with great food, this one’s a must. Pann’s Restaurant is a diner located in LA that has been open since 1958 and is still family owned. In a time where it feels like mom and pop restaurants are closing left and right, it’s nice to see one of LA’s historic local eateries still thriving. Pann’s has been featured in several films, such as xXx, Bewitched, and Next. However, contrary to popular belief, the diner scene in Pulp Fiction was filmed at Holly’s in Hawthorne, another restaurant once owned by the same family.

My bf and I have been trying diners in the LA area for the past few years and this one met our expectations of great food and customer service. I had catfish and grits while my bf ate one of their omelette options. It was delicious! The first time we tried dining in was on a Sunday and it was so packed we couldn’t find parking. To avoid the crowds after church I’d recommend coming on Saturday or a week day if you can. #losangelesrestaurants #foodreveiw #lemon8review #wheretoeat #lemon8challenge Pann's Restaurant

Pann's Restaurant

... Read moreStepping into a classic 1950s diner is truly like hitting a pause button on time, isn't it? It's more than just a meal; it's an experience, a journey back to simpler 'DINER DAYS' filled with chrome, vinyl, and the comforting aroma of home-style cooking. My recent visit to Pann's in LA really brought this feeling to life, and it got me thinking about what makes these retro spots so enduringly popular and how to make the most of your own diner adventures. First off, what truly makes a 50s diner stand out? It's often the atmosphere. Beyond the instantly recognizable architecture and interior — think Googie style, bright neon, checkered floors, and swivel stools at the counter — it’s the genuine, often family-run, warmth. These aren't just places to eat; they're community hubs. You'll often find a mix of generations, from regulars sipping coffee to families enjoying weekend brunches. It’s this authentic, unpretentious charm that modern eateries often try to replicate but rarely achieve. When it comes to the menu, while I raved about Pann's catfish and grits, a classic 50s diner offers so much more. Don't be afraid to dive into the staples! Think fluffy pancakes stacked high, crispy hash browns, perfectly runny eggs, and hearty omelettes that could feed a small army. For lunch or dinner, it’s all about the juicy burgers, classic patty melts, and crispy fried chicken. And you absolutely cannot leave without trying a milkshake – thick, creamy, and often served with the extra in the metal cup. Pies and desserts are also a must-try, often baked fresh daily. For those of you looking to discover your own iconic diner, here are a few tips I've picked up. First, look for places that proudly display their history. If it's been around for decades, especially family-owned, it's usually a good sign. Check online reviews, but don't just focus on the food; read about the service and the overall 'vibe.' A good diner review often highlights the friendly staff and the feeling of being welcomed. Secondly, pay attention to the details: a working jukebox, vintage signage, or even staff uniforms that harken back to the era can signify an authentic experience. To get the best out of your 'DINER DAYS' experience, timing is everything, as I learned trying to find parking at Pann's on a Sunday! Weekday mornings or early afternoons are usually less crowded than weekend brunch rushes. If you can, grab a seat at the counter. It's often where the magic happens – you get to watch the short-order cooks in action, chat with the servers, and feel truly immersed in the hustle and bustle. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations; the staff usually have their favorites. And most importantly, embrace the nostalgia. Put your phone away for a bit and soak in the unique ambiance of these living pieces of history. They’re a precious part of our culinary landscape, and each visit helps keep their chrome shining for future generations.
