One approach I've found invaluable is maintaining strict consistency with POV changes. By switching POV only at chapter starts—highlighted by clear chapter titles or subheadings naming the character—you reduce reader confusion and enhance flow. When intra-chapter POV shifts are necessary, bolding the character's name at scene breaks acts as a clear navigational cue. Another issue worth addressing is the overuse of filter and crutch words such as "that," "personally," and similar fillers. These often sneak into writing unnoticed and can weaken the immediacy of a scene. For example, instead of "Katrina worried that Carter would be angry," streamline to "Katrina worried Carter would be angry." This subtle tightening makes the prose more engaging and direct. Tracking character knowledge is also vital, especially in complex plots or multiple POV narratives. Keeping a detailed list of what each character knows—and doesn't know—helps maintain plot integrity and avoid accidental reveals. Personally, when drafting, I document key events from each character’s perspective, ensuring consistency and tension remain suspenseful.
