how we split home chores 🧹🧼

do you and your partner split chores in your home?

as two working individuals, getting our chores done at home can feel really hard to do when it falls on only one person to get it done. my husband used to work super long hours and so i would be home before him so i would take on completing all the home tasks on my own after work, and it was exhausting 😅

when he switched to a different job, our schedules became a little more similar, and we decided to set up a plan on how we would get home chores done so that it was fair.

some tips:

📋 make a list and designate tasks!! this will be such a game changer

👩‍❤️‍👨 tag team chores - we do this with laundry, we put on a movie and start folding or hanging stuff up together

💭 remember to be flexible! - sometimes you’ll have to adjust the chore division, try not to focus on keep score!

overall, make it fun! listen to music, watch your favorite tv shows, or you could even make it into a game! 😊

... Read moreManaging household chores can be a major challenge for working couples, especially when schedules differ significantly. One effective strategy is using a weekly chore list that includes specific tasks such as groceries, litter box cleaning, trash, dishes, vacuuming, mopping, laundry, bathroom cleaning, and meal prep. Creating a visual chore chart, like the one used on a fridge with color coordination to assign tasks to each partner, helps keep track and accountability for completing chores. Color-coding the tasks for each person and marking them once completed motivates both partners to contribute consistently. For instance, when a chore is done, filling in the respective spot with their designated color provides instant feedback and satisfaction, encouraging follow-through. Another important element is establishing flexibility to adjust the chore division when work hours or energy levels vary. Keeping the focus on fairness without keeping score promotes harmony and avoids resentment. Couples are encouraged to turn chores into enjoyable activities by listening to music, watching shows while folding laundry together, or even gamifying cleaning sessions to maintain a positive atmosphere. Tag-teaming chores like laundry allows both partners to be involved simultaneously, making the process quicker and more bonding. Involving the entire family or household in the routine can further lighten the load. Overall, a clear plan, open communication, and mutual respect are key to balancing home responsibilities effectively. Sharing chores fairly improves the household environment and supports a healthier, happier relationship for busy couples juggling work and life.
