Working on a temperature blanket is a unique and rewarding way to document daily temperatures through crochet, combining creativity with a personal record of the year. From my experience, achieving consistent tension is crucial for making the squares fit together nicely. The fabric holds better and looks neater when the stitches are even, which I realized after finishing the February square. Previously, I struggled with uneven tension in January’s square, which disrupted the overall look. Therefore, I decided to redo January’s section for a uniform finish. Choosing the right stitch pattern, like the linen stitch, adds texture and durability to each granny square, making the blanket both functional and beautiful. If you’re thinking about starting your own temperature blanket, I recommend practicing your stitch tension and testing with small swatches. Also, documenting your color choices corresponding to temperature ranges ahead of time simplifies the work as you crochet daily or weekly. Sharing progress through photos and hashtags like #crochet, #temperatureblanket, and #grannysquare connects you with a supportive community of fellow crocheters. They can offer advice and motivation throughout your project. Overall, this personal crafting journey is as much about improving skills as about creating a meaningful, cozy keepsake that reflects the passage of the year.
