Ever wondered what it's like to have a yoga buddy with four paws? Let me tell you, it's the absolute best! My little yorkies, Milo and Aspen, have become my favorite yoga companions, and our sessions are always filled with so much joy and laughter. There's nothing quite like rolling out my mat and hearing their little paws scamper over, ready for what they consider their own version of 'class'. When I first started doing yoga with them, I wasn't sure what to expect. Would they just nap? Chew my mat? Turns out, they're surprisingly mindful... in their own doggy way! The idea of 'puppy poses' isn't about forcing our furry friends into complicated positions, but simply allowing them to be present, relaxed, and sometimes, naturally mimic our movements or just stretch in their own adorable ways. For instance, when I get into a Downward Dog, Milo often does his version of a deep stretch right beside me. And Aspen? She's the queen of 'Upperdog' – just lying there, soaking up the sun, or stretching out her front paws. I even caught Milo doing an 'Upperdog again,' and honestly, it felt like his favorite woof woof! It's these natural, spontaneous moments that make puppy yoga so special. The benefits go beyond just a cute photo op. For me, it's incredibly stress-relieving. Having their warm bodies nearby, their soft fur, and their playful energy adds an extra layer of calm and connection to my practice. It's hard to stay tense when you have a tiny dog nudging your hand for pets during Savasana! For Milo and Aspen, I believe it strengthens our bond, provides gentle exercise, and offers mental stimulation. They learn to be calm in my presence and enjoy sharing my space in a peaceful way. If you're thinking about trying puppy yoga with your own furry friend, here are a few tips from my experience. First, start slow and keep it lighthearted. Don't expect perfection. Create a comfortable space – lay out their favorite blanket or a small mat next to yours. Always use positive reinforcement with treats and praise, and never ever force them into a pose. Observe your dog's cues; some dogs might prefer to just nap nearby, while others might be more interactive. Most importantly, remember that it's about companionship and fun. My sessions often end with them completely worn out, curled up on the mat, symbolizing a truly successful and zen experience. It's a delightful way to deepen your connection with your pet and bring a little extra happiness to your yoga routine!
