Piccadilly Ratings
* Gumbo: 0/10
* You know how some gumbo doesn’t taste like traditional gumbo because it doesn’t have the filé and all that, but it’s still edible, kind of like school gumbo? This was worse than that.
* Bakery
* Roll: 10/10
* Mexican cornbread: 10/10 (I’m used to meat in my Mexican cornbread, but it still had that classic Mexican cornbread flavor.)
* Bread pudding: 10/10
* Carrot soufflé: 10/10
* Crawfish étouffée: 6.5/10
* Turnip greens: 6/10
* Potatoes with cheese and gravy: 5/10
* They just needed some salt and pepper. If they had that, they’d easily be 10/10.
Overall:
* Piccadilly is smooth. If somebody wanted to go to Piccadilly, I’d go with them.
* I think we need to do another round. Y’all tell me what foods I should pile my plate with next time, and I’ll go back and give them another try.
* Until then, my score stays the same as in the video: very affordable, very nice people, but the food is a little mid.
Having a genuine curiosity about why Piccadilly remains a go-to dining spot despite mixed reviews, I decided to dive deeper based on my own dining experiences and the feedback gathered from others. What stood out to me is the strong appeal of their bakery items like rolls, Mexican cornbread, bread pudding, and carrot soufflé, all consistently rated 10/10 in various discussions online. These items showcase the kitchen’s strengths and hint at what loyal customers keep coming back for. In contrast, traditional dishes such as gumbo and crawfish étouffée tend to get lukewarm responses. The lack of authentic ingredients like filé powder in the gumbo diminishes the flavor, leaving some to describe it as not just mediocre but well below expectation. This raises an interesting point: when restaurant staples fall short, can specialty bakery items carry the reputation? Many repeat visitors mention the welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff, which creates a comfortable dining experience that rides alongside the food quality. The affordability angle also can't be overstated—Piccadilly offers value dining where customers feel they get more than what they pay for, especially if they stick to the bakery or side dishes. For anyone hesitant about trying Piccadilly for the first time, my advice is to explore beyond the main entrees and sample the bakery items, which are highly praised. Also, seasoning adjustments like adding salt and pepper to potato dishes have been noted to elevate flavor significantly. In summary, Piccadilly’s sustainability in business points to a combination of affordability, select delicious dishes, and a good customer experience. While not every dish thrills, the overall package is enough to warrant multiple visits. I’m planning to revisit and dive into different menu choices next time to get an even fuller picture and invite suggestions for must-try dishes to explore on that return visit.
