My Favorite Bookish Apps!! 📚

Do you prefer GoodReads or StoryGraph?

Personally, I'm a StoryGraph girlie! I love seeing all the stats, pre-made wrap-up graphics, content/trigger warnings, and more. I also love that reviews/ratings for a book don't smack you in the face when you add them to your TBR.

... Read moreOkay, bookworms, let's dive deeper into one of my absolute favorite reading hacks: the Libby app! While I love StoryGraph for tracking my reads and Kindle for instant purchases, Libby is a game-changer for anyone who loves books but also loves saving money (which is, let's be real, most of us!). I remember when I first discovered Libby. I'd heard whispers about getting free ebooks and audiobooks from the library, but I thought it sounded too good to be true. Turns out, it's incredibly simple and genuinely amazing. The OCR mentioned, "Great if your library offers it!" and that's the key. Most public libraries now partner with Libby (powered by OverDrive) to offer their digital collections. If you haven't checked yet, seriously, go do it! You just open the app, search for your local library (or even multiple libraries if you have cards for different systems), enter your library card number, and boom – a whole world of literature opens up. Using Libby for ebooks and audiobooks has transformed my reading habits. I used to hesitate before buying a new book, especially popular releases, but now I just hop onto Libby. The selection is usually fantastic, covering everything from the latest bestsellers to classic novels and non-fiction. I often find myself adding books to my 'holds' list, which is like a virtual queue. When a book becomes available, Libby notifies me, and I have a few days to borrow it. It's fantastic for discovering new authors or genres without any financial commitment. Plus, the convenience of having both my reading and listening material all in one app is unbeatable. I can switch between reading an ebook on my phone during my commute and listening to the audiobook version while I'm doing chores around the house. Now, about that "Con: Need library card" the OCR pointed out. Yes, you do need one, but honestly, it's such a minimal hurdle for such a massive payoff! If you don't have a library card, acquiring one is usually free and straightforward. Most libraries only require proof of address to get you set up. Think of it as your passport to an endless supply of books. And here's a pro tip: if you live near different municipalities, you might be eligible for multiple library cards, which means access to even more extensive collections and shorter wait times for popular titles! I've connected cards from two different library systems to my Libby app, and it's been a lifesaver for getting my hands on highly anticipated releases quicker. Another feature I adore is the ability to send Libby ebooks directly to my Kindle! This is perfect for those who prefer reading on an e-reader. The integration is seamless. You just borrow the book in Libby, and it gives you the option to read it with Kindle. It automatically syncs your progress, so you can pick up right where you left off, whether you're on your phone, tablet, or Kindle device. For audiobooks, the in-app player is excellent, with adjustable playback speed, sleep timers, and easy navigation. So, while StoryGraph helps me track my reading journey with amazing stats and trigger warnings, and Kindle offers a vast purchasing platform, Libby truly empowers me to be a voracious reader without breaking the bank. It's a must-have for any book lover looking to expand their literary horizons for free, and I honestly can't recommend it enough!
