I can’t take my eyes off her as she stands alone across the room. I think Nicole is what Tiffany said her name was during my cousin’s botched attempt at an introduction.
I haven’t reacted this way to a girl since Brandi, and the last time I spoke to Brandi was almost two years ago. Since then, my love life has consisted of a series of one-night stands and a few week-long relationships, but no one has excited me enough to chase them any further. But this girl, the longer I stand across the room watching her, the more intrigued I am. Her long brunette hair curls gracefully around her delicate face, one I know I won’t forget.
Everything about her is delicate, from her collarbone and shoulders to her waist. I watch as she moves her tiny hands through her hair, looking around the room. She lifts her solo cup to her mouth. I chuckle as she makes a disgusted face after swallowing her beer.
Not a drinker.
I am only half listening to the group of guys talking around me and nod when one of them says, “Isn’t that right, Brandford?”
My eyes dart back across the room to watch Nicole, still standing alone, gazing down at her drink.
I need to talk to her; her smile is now etched in my brain. I swear to God, I felt a jolt of electricity run through me when our eyes met. I turn, looking for Tiffany to have her reintroduce me, but she and Nolan are no longer in the group.
I don’t need her to hold my hand. Shit, if flirting were a major, I’d have a 4.0 GPA.
“What do you think, Dean?” a teammate asks, nudging my shoulder.
“What did you say?” I ask, forcing my eyes off Nicole.
“We are going to annihilate this next team, right?” he repeats.
I nod and take a drink from my beer; my eyes move across the room and, to my surprise, connect with Nicole’s, and just like the scene from some Rom-com, the chorus in the song ‘More than a Feeling’ blasts through the frat house, creating a moment I’m sure is only happening in my mind.
Her mouth turns into a bashful smirk, and I know this moment will forever stay etched in my heart.
She is so fucking adorable. Something I can tell she is unaware of.
I grin at her reaction, and we remain frozen, gazing at one another; her cheeks turn pink, but she doesn’t look away. I wink at her, and her smirk turns into a full-blown smile, making my heart skip. I am compelled to talk to her, so I step forward. A group of girls moving through the room cuts me off, blocking my view of Nicole. I wait for the crowd to thin out, and when the last girl finally passes by, I move forward, stopping as I see my cousins, Cal and Tiffany, standing next to Nicole. I stay still, watching as Cal reaches out and touches Nicole’s cheek.
