A little bit about me! Hi, whether you're new here or returning, I’m Emily :) A 21-year-old indie author who may or may not be a hopeless romantic 👀 (I kid, I kid… maybe). And at age fifteen I found myself absolutely in love with writing and diving into the world of literature.
In the midst of the pandemic in January 2021, I unfortunately came into contact with someone who had the COVID-19 virus. Due to my exposure, I found myself quarantined in my bedroom for a week, passing the days. During this time, I discovered the TV show Gilmore Girls—and yes, I watched it all within days. The ending, however, left an unsettled feeling in my young teenage heart. So, still hungover from Rory and Logan’s (I want Jess for myself!) ending, I started writing a fan fiction to soothe my heart. I’d dabbled in writing fanfiction before, but I never posted anything online until a friend encouraged me to do so. That’s where my story began—I wrote countless fan fictions rewriting the ending of my favorite show to heal my broken heart. No shade to Miss Amy Sherman-Palladino (she is one of the greatest screenwriters in human history).
From there, I discovered this new side of creativity and soon felt inspired to write my own original stories. I was captivated by romance novels that filled my shelves (on Kindle, yes, I’m an e-reader) and felt inspired to create something of my own. So, I wrote this little cringe-worthy mafia novel you may know as "If Only" at sixteen years old—marking the start of what has brought me to today. I’ve now written about ten novels and find myself deeply connected to each character I create.
The idea for Shifted came to me on New Year’s Eve of 2022 while I was sitting at my aunt’s house in Florida. From there, I began writing the first draft of the novel for Wattpad, which would eventually become my first paperback.
Whether you're from my Wattpad days (which aren’t over, don’t worry), a fan of my previous releases, a friend, or just some beautiful soul who stumbled upon me today—thank you for following my journey. I cannot wait for this new edition of Shifted!
Sincerely,
Emily Kathryn
