Yao ceremony ⁉️
It is a ritual about the religious beliefs of the Thai people in the northeast. It is popular in Phu Tai or Thai people, Khun Tai (Kalasin, Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan, Sakon Nakhon Nakhon). This ritual is a risk. When there is an illness in the family, this illness is believed to be the action of a ghost, it must be done to solve the ghost and to know what the ghost wants or what the ghost offender. If the ghost is solved, the illness will heal.
"Yao" is a belief and ritual to maintain the health of people in the traditional Tai community, which is based on the traditional belief that ghosts are a ceremony to communicate between ghosts and people, to help ghosts solve problems, especially illnesses, and to get sick. The reasons that require Yao come from the traditional social conditions of Thais who do not have medical facilities to guarantee illness, causing the need for Thais to struggle to find a place to rely on illness. Most of them use local folk herbs to treat and care for their health.
In the past, treatment of ailments required that ghosts be diagnosed and told how to treat. At present, although there is a new medicine that can diagnose the disease correctly, some diseases or symptoms are incurable. Patients who are defenseless need to rely on rituals to at least improve the patient's mind, it is mainly a ritual that builds morale with the patient. When the patient is in the end of life or the patient is cured of the disease and illness, the ritual is performed.
The person who performed the Yao ceremony is called Doctor Yao, who was inherited from the ancestors by his grandparents, grandparents, mothers, and Yao before the children inherited Yao. But now, the inheritance of Doctor Yao has disappeared from the society of the Tai people, only the elder of the community, and the Yao ritual is still left to some communities, because modern society has played a role in changing some of the traditions of the Tai people.
Yao is the communication of man and spirit. Communication uses the melody of music, also known as the Lam Verse. There is a kind of musical instrument that provides rhythm, means of communication, verse and melody, called Yao.

ในสังคมไทยภาคอีสาน โดยเฉพาะกลุ่มชาติพันธุ์ผู้ไท พิธีเหยาถือเป็นหนึ่งในมรดกทางวัฒนธรรมและความเชื่อที่สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงวิถีชีวิตและความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างมนุษย์กับโลกวิญญาณอย่างลึกซึ้ง การเหยาไม่ใช่เพียงแค่พิธีกรรมทางศาสนาหรือความเชื่อเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นกระบวนการสื่อสารที่ผสมผสานระหว่างเสียงเพลง กลอนลำ และดนตรีพื้นบ้านอย่างแคนเข้าด้วยกัน หมอเหยาจะใช้การเหยาในการเปิดโอกาสให้ผีหรือวิญญาณสื่อสารกับผู้คน เพื่อชี้แนะว่าผู้ป่วยนั้นมีความผิดหรือถูกล่วงเกินผีอะไร และหาวิธีแก้ไขรักษาให้หายจากโรคภัยไข้เจ็บ พิธีเหยามีบทบาทสำคัญในอดีต เมื่อชุมชนยังขาดการเข้าถึงสถานพยาบาลและเทคโนโลยีทางการแพทย์ การรักษาโดยการเหยาช่วยชุมชนคลายความวิตกกังวลและสร้างความหวัง ซึ่งนอกจากจะใช้สมุนไพรพื้นบ้านสนับสนุนแล้ว ยังใช้พิธีกรรมเป็นการบำบัดทั้งร่างกายและจิตใจของผู้ป่วยด้วย ในยุคปัจจุบัน แม้การแพทย์สมัยใหม่สามารถวินิจฉัยและรักษาโรคได้อย่างถูกต้องกว่า แต่พิธีเหยายังคงมีคุณค่าในแง่ของการสร้างขวัญกำลังใจและความเชื่อมั่นให้ผู้ป่วย โดยเฉพาะในชุมชนที่ยังคงยึดมั่นในความเชื่อโบราณนี้ หมอเหยาที่เป็นผู้อาวุโสของชุมชนทำหน้าที่เป็นผู้เชื่อมโยงระหว่างโลกมนุษย์และวิญญาณ เพื่อให้ชาวบ้านรู้สึกปลอดภัยและมั่นใจว่าผู้เจ็บป่วยจะได้รับการดูแลทั้งทางร่างกายและจิตใจ อีกทั้ง การใช้กลอนลำหรือหมอลำประกอบกับดนตรีแคนในพิธีเหยานั้น ยังสะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความงดงามของวัฒนธรรมผู้ไท และช่วยถ่ายทอดเรื่องราวความเชื่อและภูมิปัญญาของชุมชนสู่คนรุ่นใหม่ ซึ่งนับเป็นวัฒนธรรมที่ควรได้รับการอนุรักษ์และส่งเสริม เพื่อให้มรดกทางจิตวิญญาณนี้ยังคงอยู่และต่อยอดในอนาคตอย่างยั่งยืน ดังนั้น พิธีเหยาไม่เพียงเป็นพิธีกรรมทางความเชื่อเท่านั้น แต่ยังเป็นหลักฐานทางวัฒนธรรมที่บ่งบอกถึงความสัมพันธ์ระหว่างมนุษย์กับธรรมชาติและวิญญาณในสังคมผู้ไทภาคอีสาน และยังช่วยเสริมสร้างความเข้มแข็งของชุมชนผ่านการสืบทอดประเพณีและความเชื่อโบราณนี้อย่างมีคุณค่า
