A doctor, or a folk doctor, who has such a reputation that ghosts have to coil in the northeast community. ‼️
In the northeast, there are folk doctors, who in many areas have many classifications, such as the "doctor" in the community. Most of the folk doctors are elderly men and women, or monks who are well-versed in treating illnesses. The villagers in the community respect them through the accumulation of wisdom and the long-standing study of Buddhism and magic.
To be a folk doctor is not easy, nor is it possible for everyone, because the person who is to be is proficient in the treatment of the disease must be moral, ethical, moral, compassionate, etc., receive the knowledge of healing from the ancestors in the genealogy, such as the grandfather, the father, or the eyes, or perhaps the inheritance of the acquaintances of the community. And the important things of the "doctor" must hold the prohibition, such as not being guilty of other children, not eating at funerals, not eating the placenta of the coconut, not eating any food from others, etc. ..
The Encyclopedia of Thai Culture, Northeast, Volume 9, has given the meaning of a folk doctor, a person who treats the illness of a society in a community, has knowledge and treatment related to the lifestyle, environment, society, and culture of the community, whether it is the diagnosis of the oculus of the four elements: earth, water, wind, fire, or the treatment of diseases using superstitious methods such as blowing, taking shape, etc., to achieve confidence in the treatment.
And the important thing is that a doctor's relationship with a patient is based on helping each other: a folk doctor is more friendly or sociable with a patient than a doctor or a modern doctor, separating the types of folk doctors into eight categories:
1. A fortune teller or a doctor.
2. Doctor or old.
3. Doctor inhaling or doctor making gifts
4. Doctor Dharma
5. Nettle doctor
6. Doctor Hakwood or Herb Doctor
7. Doctor Blow or Doctor Mantra
8. Mor, ghost, sky and artificial lady
In this classification of folk doctors, they are distinguished by their methods, which have different methods.
Doctor Dharma (Father Dharma, Father Hapsak) is a person who learns Buddhist magic and mysticism, treats moral ethics, is mainly an elderly man, or a monk, can strictly hold the rules (taboo), such as not being guilty of other children, not eating the placenta of the coconut, not eating snakes, not eating leftovers from others, and is someone whom the villagers respect, can eliminate all kinds of bad ghosts, such as ghouls, widows, ghosts, etc...
The northeastern society is another society that has beliefs about the supernatural, when people in the community are sick by the actions of supernatural things that are called by ghosts, such as being possessed by ghosts, in bodies, hidden or northeastern ghosts, and deceived by ghosts at night, and so on, the patients who are committed by ghosts will come to be treated by holy water, bind arm joints, or receive auspices to prevent the harm of the ghost's actions from being healed.
When healed, the person who came to heal came to "Pongkai," which was to offer a teacher's sacrifice with 5, 8, 1 dime of silver, 1 praewa cloth, the highest pongkai was found to be only 24 baht (Encyclopedia of Thai Culture, Northeast, Volume 9).
Patients who are healed must come to spit. If not, it is a mistake for the teacher. Doctors and families will suffer various problems. Nana, doctors must spit themselves to be healed. And doctors cannot call for more expensive teacher money because they will also wrong the teacher.
At the time of Lent, the people in the community who worship the doctor will bring the flower of the incense to worship the "cure" (arathana, the holy thing to protect themselves) and the doctor of the house, and the doctor of the law will bind the joints of the arms, and water the holy water for the auspices, telling the children to be happy.
The reverent people are called "candlesticks." The northeastern people are very important whether they make a living, have a family in the distance. When it comes to Lent, they have to go home to respect the doctor, who is like a representative of the sacred things that protect themselves and their families.
Therefore, it can be seen that the doctor is the one who heals the people of the community who have been subjected to supernatural things, whether they have been subjected to ghosts or deceived by ghosts. The doctor is often treated or healed by holy water, arm joints, etc. When healed, he will come to spit.
People who are doctors will not charge more than a certain amount of treatment because it is considered wrong for teachers. In addition, those who are doctors must have a doctor's code of conduct and must treat without any hope from the patient.
It is this that the people of the community respect the "sage" of the villagers and the mutual support of the people of the community, which is a beautiful culture of northeastern society that has been passed down from the past to the present.
