Go see a doctor 🧑‍⚕️

2025/1/23 Edited to

... Read moreWe all have that one person, or maybe it's even ourselves, who thinks, "I'm all good," and puts off a doctor's appointment. For years, I was that person. I'd joke about being the 'picture of health,' even though deep down, I hadn't had a proper check-up in ages. The idea of a 'yearly physical' seemed like something for other people, not me. But then, my body started sending clear, undeniable messages. It started subtly, a persistent cough that I blamed on allergies. Then came the unsettling sounds of my bones cracking more often, accompanied by a dull ache. And finally, the undeniable, sharp, shooting pain in my hip that genuinely made me stop and ask myself, "WHAT'S WRONG?" It was a painful wake-up call, making me realize just how long it had been since I’d never been to the doctor for anything other than a quick sniffle. I was coughing painfully and had to admit: my self-proclaimed picture of health was crumbling. This experience highlighted exactly why physicians advise seniors – and really, everyone – to seek medical evaluation for persistent symptoms. It's easy to dismiss aches and pains as 'just getting older,' but some symptoms are your body's way of telling you something more serious might be happening. Early detection can make a world of difference in treatment and recovery. So, what are some of those persistent signs and symptoms that truly warrant a visit to the doctor? Beyond the obvious ones like severe chest pain or sudden weakness, here's a list based on what I've learned and what medical professionals emphasize: Unexplained Persistent Pain: Like my shooting pain in the hip, or any joint pain, back pain, or muscle aches that don't improve with rest or over-the-counter remedies after a few weeks. Don't just attribute it to 'old age.' Changes in Bowel or Bladder Habits: Persistent constipation, diarrhea, blood in stool, or increased frequency of urination could signal underlying issues. Persistent Cough or Shortness of Breath: My persistent cough was a major red flag. If a cough lingers for more than a few weeks, or if you find yourself easily winded, it's time to get it checked. Unexplained Weight Loss or Gain: Significant, unintentional changes in weight can be a symptom of various conditions. Unusual Fatigue: Feeling tired all the time, even after adequate rest, is not normal and should be investigated. Skin Changes: New moles, changes in existing moles, or non-healing sores should always be evaluated. Memory Problems or Confusion: While some memory decline is normal with age, significant changes in memory, thinking, or behavior warrant medical attention. Dizziness or Balance Issues: These can increase the risk of falls and might indicate neurological or circulatory problems. Ignoring these signals can lead to more complex problems down the line. That yearly physical is not just a formality; it's a critical opportunity for preventive care and early detection. Don't make the same mistake I did by waiting until symptoms become unbearable. Listen to your body, heed the advice of physicians, and if you have persistent symptoms, go see a doctor. Your future self will thank you for it.

Could it be lupus? What to know BEFORE you see a doctor
You’ve been tired for way too long. Your joints hurt. You feel off. You’ve gone to the doctor… and left with no real answers. Here’s the thing: Lupus can be sneaky. It mimics other conditions and hides behind vague symptoms. And many people (especially women) go years without a diagnosis.

First off let me say this but getting sick in another country is my worst nightmare. However if you travel as much as I do it’s bound to happen once or twice. I was actually unfortunate enough to get sick 3 or 4 times in a different country and all three times I needed a prescription. I’m personall

Why some people don’t go to the doctor?
Genuine question—why do so many men wait until something is really wrong before going to the doctor? Like I know multiple guys who won’t get a checkup for years, even when something’s clearly off. Whether it’s pride, fear, or just “I’ll walk it off” energy… I don’t get it. Preventative care e
