If you want braces but not the look!

Another option would be clear aligners like for example Invisalign.

The difference between lingual/hidden braces, and Invisalign are:

Invisalign requires compliance. You must put them back in after you eat and wear them 22 hours a day or your teeth may not get the desired results.

With all Clear aligners there are limitations to how much they can actually move your teeth and correct your bite.

With braces compliance is not a consideration because the brackets are bonded on your teeth so your teeth will straighten without your intervention.

That being said some people desire straight teeth, but do not have the compliance to wear clear aligners.

If you are a candidate, speak to your orthodontist and see if hidden braces is an option for you.

... Read moreSo, you're dreaming of a perfectly straight smile but absolutely dread the idea of traditional metal braces? You're not alone! Many of us want to improve our teeth without the aesthetic impact of visible hardware. This is exactly why options like hidden (lingual) braces and clear aligners like Invisalign have become so popular. If you want braces, but not the look!, it's essential to understand the nuances of each. Let's dive deeper into what these discreet options truly mean for your journey to a straighter smile, beyond just compliance. Hidden (Lingual) Braces: The Ultimate Secret Lingual braces are truly remarkable because they are placed on the inside surface of your teeth, making them virtually invisible to others. This is their biggest draw – complete discretion. Unlike clear aligners, once they're bonded, you don't have to think about them or remember to put them back in after meals. They work 24/7. However, this invisibility comes with its own set of considerations. Initial Comfort & Speech: When you first get lingual braces, it's common to experience some discomfort and even temporary changes in your speech. Your tongue will need time to adjust to the brackets on the inside. This period can last from a few days to a couple of weeks, but it does get better. Maintenance: Cleaning lingual braces can be a bit more challenging than traditional braces because they're harder to see and reach. Special brushes and diligent flossing are a must to prevent plaque buildup and maintain oral hygiene. Cost: Generally, lingual braces tend to be more expensive than conventional braces or clear aligners due to the custom fabrication of the brackets and the specialized training required for orthodontists to apply them. Treatment Time & Appointments: While treatment time can be comparable to traditional braces, adjustments might take a little longer as the orthodontist works in a more confined space. Clear Aligners (e.g., Invisalign): Flexibility with Responsibility Clear aligners, like Invisalign, offer another fantastic discreet alternative. They are removable, virtually invisible plastic trays that gradually shift your teeth. The biggest advantage here is the ability to take them out for eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing, making oral hygiene much simpler. Compliance is King: As mentioned in the original article, the success of clear aligners hinges entirely on your commitment to wearing them for 20-22 hours a day. Forgetting to put them back in, or leaving them out for too long, can significantly delay your progress or even undo previous tooth movements. I've heard stories where people didn't wear them enough and had to go back a few steps! Not for Every Case: While clear aligners have advanced significantly, there are still complex orthodontic cases where traditional or lingual braces might be more effective. Your orthodontist will assess if clear aligners are the right fit for your specific needs. Potential for Loss: Because they are removable, there's a risk of misplacing or losing an aligner, which can be costly and interrupt your treatment. Dietary Restrictions (Indirect): While you can eat anything with aligners removed, you must brush your teeth before putting them back in, which can be inconvenient when snacking frequently or eating out. Making Your Choice: Beyond the Look When deciding between hidden braces and clear aligners, consider your lifestyle, budget, and personal discipline. Do you value complete invisibility above all else, even with initial discomfort? Lingual braces might be for you. Do you prefer the flexibility of removing your aligners, and are you confident in your ability to be highly compliant? Clear aligners could be your match. The most crucial step is to have an in-depth consultation with a qualified orthodontist. They can evaluate your specific dental situation, discuss your aesthetic goals, and recommend the best discreet orthodontic option tailored just for you. Don't be afraid to ask about all aspects – cost, comfort, cleaning, and expected treatment duration. Your perfect, confident smile is within reach!

My Experience Getting LINGUAL BRACES 🦷
Growing up, I was always insecure about how my teeth looked. As an adult in my mid-20s I definitely don’t think it matters that much now - but when I was a teenager, not having straight teeth really hurt my confidence. My parents didn’t have the money to pay for braces and insurance wouldn’t cover
