No cook proteins
As a fellow protein hater 👀
consider this a gift to make your life so much easier.
I don’t hate protein, all the time… but I do get sick of protein sources & protein flavors quite quickly. And the meat ick creeps up FAST for me.
I find having a variety of no cook options makes reaching my goals easier but most importantly staying consistent because it makes swapping out sources super simple. 🤝🏼
Whether do you struggle with protein because you don’t have time to cook, don’t like to cook, are scared of meat being undercooked, or just get the ick like me, this list really covers your bases with so many options to choose from.
These options are all solely from Target. But I do know just about every chain grocery store has their own store brand version of most of these things! Many with similar or the same options for non store brand items. I just stuck with one to show you how many options you can find from just one store! 🎯

Finding easy ways to get enough protein can feel like a constant battle, especially when cooking isn't your favorite activity or you're just short on time. For me, the 'meat ick' is real, and the thought of cooking elaborate protein sources often leads to skipping meals or making less-than-ideal choices. But over time, I've discovered a treasure trove of no-cook protein sources that have truly revolutionized how I approach my nutrition. Let’s dive deeper into some of these fantastic ready-to-eat and minimal-prep options that can make your life so much easier. Imagine having a variety of high-protein foods that don't require turning on the stove! I’ve found that having these go-to items on hand is the secret to staying consistent and making healthy choices, even on the busiest days. Ready-to-Eat Meats: More Than Just a Snack The range of pre-cooked options is incredible. Take the Good & Gather grilled chicken breast strips, for example. I used to think these were just for emergencies, but now they're a staple! I often chop them up for a quick salad, toss them into a wrap with some veggies and hummus, or even add them to instant ramen right after it's cooked for an extra protein boost. The seasoned pulled pork is also a game-changer – a scoop on a piece of whole-wheat bread or even just in a bowl with some coleslaw makes for a surprisingly satisfying lunch without any effort. Applegate Naturals also offers fantastic pre-cooked options like their breakfast sausages, which are perfect for a quick morning bite or even sliced into a savory oatmeal bowl. Deli Meats: Beyond the Sandwich Deli meats, when chosen carefully (look for lower sodium and nitrate-free options like Applegate Naturals uncured turkey breast or black forest ham), are incredibly versatile. Beyond the classic sandwich, I love making protein roll-ups with a slice of deli turkey, a piece of cheese, and some avocado. Hormel pepperoni or Applegate Naturals uncured genoa salami can also be cut into small pieces and added to salads for a flavor punch or enjoyed simply as a quick, satisfying snack. They provide that savory craving without any cooking. Minimal-Prep Frozen: Quick Heat, Big Impact While some frozen options require a quick zap in the microwave or a few minutes in an air fryer, I consider them 'no-cook' in the traditional sense because they're so easy. Tyson air fried chicken breast strips are my absolute favorite for those nights when I'm really tired. A few minutes in the air fryer, and I have crispy chicken to dip in my favorite sauce, or to chop and add to a buffalo chicken salad. Good & Gather homestyle turkey meatballs are another great example; heat them up and add them to a quick pasta dish with pre-made sauce, or even just enjoy them with a side of steamed veggies. Canned Wonders: Affordable & Shelf-Stable Heroes Don't underestimate the power of canned proteins! Swanson white premium chunk chicken breast, Good & Gather chunk light tuna, and Wild Planet wild pink salmon are incredibly convenient. My go-to is a quick tuna or salmon salad mixed with Greek yogurt instead of mayo, a little mustard, and some celery – perfect for lettuce wraps or on whole-grain crackers. Season wild caught sardines in water are also packed with nutrients and make a surprisingly tasty snack on rye crackers with a squeeze of lemon. They're affordable, shelf-stable, and ready to eat straight from the can. Snack Proteins: Your On-the-Go Saviors For those moments between meals or when you need a quick boost, a variety of snack proteins are lifesavers. Chomps turkey and beef sticks or Jack Link's beef jerky are excellent for keeping in your bag for when hunger strikes. When I need a liquid protein boost, Core Power elite protein shake or Chobani Complete yogurt drink are my top picks. For something more substantial, Good Culture cottage cheese and Oikos Triple Zero yogurt are incredibly versatile. I love mixing cottage cheese with everything bagel seasoning for a savory snack, or adding fruit and a sprinkle of granola to my Oikos yogurt for a quick breakfast. Macrobar protein bars are also fantastic for sustained energy. By keeping a variety of these high-protein, no-cook foods in my pantry and fridge, I've found it so much easier to meet my protein goals without the stress of constant cooking. It's all about making protein accessible and enjoyable, especially when you, like me, sometimes just can't face cooking another meal!
