So, you saw my quick post about my new "Red Robin" hair, but I wanted to dive a little deeper into how I got these vibrant red highlights on my black hair, especially since so many of you asked! It wasn't just a simple dye job; it was a whole process, but totally worth it for this stunning pop of color. First off, let's talk about the bleaching. I know, "bleach" sounds scary, especially for textured hair, but with careful planning, it’s doable. My goal wasn't to go platinum, just light enough for the red to really shine. I used a 30 developer, but here's the key: I only left it in for about 15 minutes. For my hair type, that was enough to lift it to a light brown/orange, which is perfect for a vibrant red. Achieving that sleek, glossy finish was the next step, and for me, a good silk press is non-negotiable. After conditioning, I blow-dried my hair and then went in with my flat iron. The silk press really makes the red highlights pop against the black hair, giving it that super shiny, polished look. It's amazing how much a good press can transform the overall appearance, making the color look even more vibrant and healthy. And finally, the part many of us dread but shouldn't: trimming those dead ends! Seriously, don't hold onto them. I used to be so hesitant, but cutting them off makes such a difference.
