Today (August 22), Major General Amrit Boonsuya, Chief of the 1st Region, adopted a summary statement on the outcome of the Thailand-Cambodia Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting at the captaincy level on the 1st Armed Forces, with both sides agreeing well and accepting 13 ceasefire agreements from past General Border Committee (GBC) meetings.

In addition, the meeting agreed on three additional points, four of which were proposed by the Thai side:

▪️ Demining: Both sides agreed to cooperate on humanitarian demining operations, to be discussed together again at the next GBC meeting.

▪️# Suppression of transnational crime: Both sides agreed to co-ordinate the problem of transnational crime, particularly the call center gang, which will use the Cambodian Interior Ministry's platform in discussions with relevant Thai authorities and will propose to discuss it together at the next GBC meeting.

▪️ Establishment of a troubleshooting mechanism: Both sides agreed to a troubleshooting mechanism; with the establishment of a coordination group (CG) and a local border committee; as a mechanism to support the RBC committee in troubleshooting area-level issues.

▪️ Resolution of violations of the 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (# MOU43) The Cambodian side requested the use of another mechanism for discussions, as it was not within RBC's authority, with the Thai side already confirming and informing it of its clear spirit to resolve the issue in that area.

General of the First Region reiterated that on MOU 43, Cambodia proposed to implement the mechanism of the Joint Commission on the Boundary of Thailand -# Cambodia(JBC) Instead, this must continue to be proposed through the GBC mechanism.
