The impact of low birth rates on provincial schools

Provincial schools have been hit by two bounces, both a nationwide decline in birth rates and the migration of families into major cities to find jobs, leaving some schools with only tens or fewer students.
2. Budget lost according to the student's head
The Thai budget allocation system is tied to the number of students. With fewer children, schools receive fewer budgets, affecting:
• Teacher pay / Number of teachers allocated
• Teaching equipment
• Building maintenance
3. Dissolve schools and merge
The Ministry of Education has had a policy of "amalgamating small schools" for many years; schools with under-enlisted students (often under 60-120) are at risk of being dissolved or merged with other schools, which affects children who have to travel farther.
4. Scarcity of quality teachers
Talented teachers often choose to move to cities with more facilities and vocational advancement; rural schools therefore have a shortage of specialized teachers, such as English, math or science teachers.
5. Impact on the community
Schools are not just school places, but community centers; school closures often accelerate the decline of smaller communities, because families may decide to relocate even more.
Overview of civil servants, teachers in the whole country (all affiliations)
Trends in the 10-year cycle (2010-2020) showed a decline in the number of civil servants, teachers and educational personnel, by 6.79%, or an average of 0.68% per year, in line with the low-birth and pupil problem we discussed earlier.
Note: The number of 377,757 people is only affiliated with the SET. If other teachers are included (vocational, BMA, PTT, private, etc.), there will be more than this, including all countries, about 5-6 hundred thousand or more.
In summary, this problem is a self-accelerating cycle - little kids → weak schools → families moving out → even fewer kids, a big problem that Thailand still can't find a lasting solution to.
