... Read moreIf you’re planning a visit to Frontenac Provincial Park, here are some personal tips from my recent trip that made the experience even better. The Doe Lake Trail is an easy 3 km loop perfect for beginners, offering lovely forest scenery and tranquil lake views that feel incredibly refreshing on a warm day. For something a bit more scenic, the Arab Lake Gorge Trail features a short boardwalk surrounded by lush greenery—ideal if you want a quick nature escape. For more adventure, consider the Big Salmon Lake Lookout Trail. It’s a moderate to longer hike, but the amazing lookout at the end makes the effort worthwhile. If you want to skip the crowds, the Arkon Lake Loop offers a peaceful 13 km trek through forest and lakes, with fewer visitors along the way. One of the highlights of Frontenac is the abundance of lakes—over 22 hidden gems scattered throughout the park—making it a fantastic spot for kayaking or canoeing. I found that bringing plenty of bug spray is essential, especially in the evenings, as the park is full of wildlife buzzing about. Unlike Ontario’s larger parks, Frontenac doesn’t require day-use reservations, which adds to the spontaneous and laid-back vibe. Outhouses are available at trailheads, so you’re covered for basic needs, though they’re quite rustic. If you enjoy backcountry camping, the park has 48 interior campsites only accessible by paddling or hiking, offering a perfect opportunity to disconnect and fully immerse yourself in nature. Don’t forget to download a map beforehand as cell signals can be spotty away from main areas. Overall, Frontenac Provincial Park is a hidden treasure offering a quieter alternative to busier parks, relaxed hiking, and beautiful natural surroundings. Whether you want a peaceful day trip or a low-key overnight adventure, it’s definitely worth adding to your Ontario summer adventure list.
