Blame Ori, Not Orisa

2025/2/13 Edited to

... Read moreHey everyone! I've been diving deep into Yoruba spiritual traditions lately, especially the concepts of Ori and Orisa, and it's completely shifted my perspective on destiny and personal responsibility. You know, for a long time, I, like many others, might have thought that if things weren't going well, it was perhaps the 'fault' of an Orisa or external forces. But I recently came across some profound wisdom, which the original post beautifully summarizes: 'Blame Ori, Not Orisa.' And let me tell you, understanding this has been truly empowering! So, let's break it down. When people search 'what is Orisa,' they often think of deities, right? And they are – the Orisa are powerful archetypal spirits or forces of nature, revered in traditions like Ifa, Lukumi, and Santeria. Each Orisa, like Ogun, Obatala, or Yemaya, represents different aspects of creation, human experience, and natural elements. They are there to guide, protect, and offer pathways to blessings, but they don't dictate your destiny in the same way Ori does. Now, 'ori meaning' is where it gets really fascinating and deeply personal. Ori, often translated as 'head' in Yoruba, is so much more than just your physical head. It's your spiritual intuition, your inner consciousness, your personal divinity, and most crucially, your destiny. It's the unique blueprint of your life journey that you (or rather, your spiritual essence) chose before coming into this world. The wisdom from the Odu Ifa Corpus of Yorùbá Land teaches us that 'ONE'S DESTINY IS TO BE BLAMED' – meaning, your own Ori holds the primary responsibility for your life's path, its successes, and its challenges. This doesn't mean Orisa or Egungun (ancestors) have no role. Egungun, our revered ancestors, provide guidance and support, connecting us to our lineage. Orisa offer paths and energies we can align with for support and growth. But the fundamental premise is that your Ori is the captain of your ship. If you hit an iceberg, you don't blame the ocean (Orisa) or the winds (Egungun); you look at the navigation of your ship (Ori). As the saying goes, 'IT IS ORI BLAME.' This isn't about self-recrimination but about self-empowerment. It means you have the power, through your Ori, to adjust, to navigate, and to manifest your desired path. Understanding this has helped me stop looking for external reasons for my struggles and instead, turn inward. It’s about tending to my Ori, connecting with my inner wisdom, and aligning my actions with my highest destiny. This connection makes me feel responsible for my choices, realizing that 'ONE'S ÈDÁ IS RESPONSIBLE' – Èdá being a related concept of one's innate character and destiny. This is a profound teaching from figures like Fayemi Fatunde Fakayode, whose work emphasizes 'IWURE - EFFICACIOUS PRAYER TO OLODUMARE, THE SUPREME FORCE,' always starting with aligning with one's Ori. So next time you're facing a challenge, instead of asking 'Why is this happening to me?' or 'Which Orisa should I appease?', try asking 'How can I better align with my Ori?' It's a game-changer for personal growth and spiritual development. It puts the power back in your hands, reminding you that your spiritual head, your Ori, is the ultimate guide to your unique and blessed journey.

Do you blame yourself for expecting more?
You ever notice how you can love God and still feel… emotionally checked out? Like you pray. You believe. But deep down you’re tired, guarded, and holding it together way too tight. That’s not a lack of faith. That’s unprocessed emotion. And pretending you’re “good” doesn’t heal it —

When Healing Looks Like Blame 💔
