Mamas maaaad 😆
This is Mama 🌸☀️, my light Brahma. A few months ago she had a prolapse vent which I fixed myself. It took a lot of time and patience and also learning a lot of stuff that I never knew before because I never had a chicken with a prolapse event. Luckily she’s lived and pulled through because she was definitely on the verge of dying, and cheese been doing great ever since, but I always have such a fear she is gonna go and give herself another one from over straining herself when she lays an egg. She’s my middle child’s favorite so I can’t let anything happen to her lol
Caring for chickens requires understanding common health issues, including prolapse events, which can be serious. A prolapse vent occurs when a hen's uterus or vent protrudes through the cloaca, often needing immediate attention. Preventing these issues involves good management practices, such as ensuring proper diet, hydration, and nesting conditions. Additionally, stress can cause prolapses, so it’s crucial to create a calm environment. Knowing the signs of distress in chickens helps in early intervention, potentially saving their lives. Engaging with your flock enhances their well-being. Chickens are social animals, and bonding can reduce stress, leading to healthier egg-laying. Always monitor their laying habits and ensure adequate support in the nesting box. Should you face similar challenges as I did, consulting a vet familiar with poultry can provide valuable insights. Remember, every chicken's story is unique, and being proactive is key to a happy, healthy flock!
