Children don't stop loving their parents

Children don't stop loving their parents.

They stop loving themselves.

I've spent decades counseling adults who still carry the wounds of childhood.

What's remarkable is that very few of them stopped loving the parent who hurt them.

Instead, they concluded:

"It must be me."

"I'm too much."

"I'm not enough."

"If I were different, maybe they would have loved me the way I needed."

Children depend on their parents for survival.

So when something goes wrong, they don't question the parent.

They question themselves.

That belief doesn't disappear when they become adults.

It follows them into every relationship.

They tolerate disrespect.

They people-please.

They fear abandonment.

They spend years trying to earn the love they should have received freely.

This isn't about blaming parents.

It's about understanding how childhood shapes adulthood.

Because once you understand where the belief came from, you can stop living as though it's true.

Healing begins the moment you stop asking, "What's wrong with me?"

...and start asking, "Who taught me to believe that?"

If you’re ready to actually face the truth and pain behind what you are feeling and what you were taught…“There’s a Hole in My Love Cup” will take you there. This book will KICK your ass and change your life. You need it. But you gotta bring the courage. http://BadassCounseling.com/books #personaldevelopmentbooks #counseling #therapy #mom #childhood

7/10 Edited to

... Read moreFrom my years of experience supporting individuals healing from childhood wounds, I've noticed a powerful yet painful truth: children often hold an unwavering love for their parents, even when those parents have caused them harm. This dynamic stems from a natural survival instinct where children depend entirely on their caregivers, resulting in a tendency to internalize blame rather than question their parents’ behaviors. Many adults continue to carry these self-limiting beliefs into their adult lives—thinking they are “too much,” “not enough,” or that love must be earned through conformity and sacrifice. This often leads to patterns of people-pleasing, tolerating disrespect, and fearing abandonment in relationships, reflecting the unresolved emotional lessons from childhood. Understanding this cycle is the first step toward healing. When individuals shift their perspective from asking "What’s wrong with me?" to "Who taught me to believe this?", they start to dismantle harmful internal narratives and reclaim their self-worth. Therapy, counseling, and self-development resources can help uncover these roots and guide a journey toward self-compassion. Additionally, the phrase from the image "CHILDREN LOVE PARENTS MORE THAN PARENTS LOVE CHILDREN" captures the tragic imbalance many experience. Acknowledging this truth without blame allows healing to focus on personal growth and forgiveness rather than resentment. For those who relate deeply to these experiences, engaging with books like "There’s a Hole in My Love Cup" offers a raw and courageous roadmap for confronting painful truths and transforming emotional wounds into empowerment. Remember, healing isn’t about changing the past, but about nurturing the love and respect you give yourself moving forward.

Adult Children Don’t Walk Away For No Reason
Children are biologically wired to love and attach to their parents — not cut them off. Most adult children don’t walk away because they’re “ungrateful.” They walk away after years of hurt, invalidation, toxic communication, emotional neglect, manipulation, boundary violations, or parents refusi
