Cold or room temperature foods are often preferred because they reduce swelling and provide soothing relief. It's completely normal to crave your favorite crunchy or spicy foods, but it's best to postpone eating those until your mouth has healed sufficiently, usually after 7-10 days or as advised by your dentist or oral surgeon. Hydration is equally important—drink plenty of water but avoid using straws as the sucking motion can dislodge the blood clot, causing a painful condition called dry socket. If you want something more nourishing, homemade soups strained of chunks are a great option—warm but not hot. Another tip I found helpful is to eat smaller meals more frequently instead of large meals, which can be tiring or uncomfortable to chew and swallow. Listening to your body’s signals and choosing easy-to-eat meals can speed up recovery and make the process much more bearable. Maintaining oral hygiene is crucial but be gentle when rinsing your mouth. Saltwater rinses starting a day or two after surgery help keep the area clean without disturbing the healing tissue. Overall, patience is key. Your diet might feel like baby food for a few days, but it's a small sacrifice for a smooth healing process and a healthier mouth in the long run.
