January Writing Challenge - Day 11 & 12

Accidentally missed last night! Day 11 and 12 are about world building and outlining your next chapter! It’s super important to have your world (especially not set in the modern day world) fleshed out and have plenty of details when it comes to your world. I.e. languages, religions, cultural norms. However, it’s easy to get sucked into this. Don’t let it completely consume you to where you aren’t writing your story!!

I like to outline each chapter on what I want to happen in it, then write it. If more comes to me, I go with it! Having most of it preplanned out helped me stay on task as well as helped me remember where I want things to head!

... Read moreWorld building is crucial for authors, especially in genres where settings differ significantly from the modern world. It's essential to establish a rich tapestry of details that includes not just the geography, but also languages, belief systems, and social customs that define your unique world. The process involves creating a detailed backdrop that enhances the story. When outlining your chapters, consider starting with the primary events you wish to convey, then flesh them out further. This approach not only promotes a clear narrative flow but also provides flexibility to adapt as your ideas evolve. Writers often benefit from visual aids or tools such as mind maps or structured outlines to stay organized. Incorporating feedback from beta readers during the world-building and outlining stages can also greatly enhance the quality of your story. It ensures that your world feels authentic and relatable, and that the plot is engaging for your audience. Overall, balancing world creation with storytelling is vital to maintaining momentum in your writing. These strategies can lead to a rewarding writing experience, encouraging creativity while keeping your narrative on track.
