Pretty snow day in Vermont

2025/1/11 Edited to

... Read moreI recently took a deep dive into what POWDR, the adventure lifestyle company, offers for winter travel in Vermont, and I'm excited to share my findings with you! When I started planning my last snowy getaway, I was specifically looking at destinations that promised both thrilling slopes and cozy, authentic New England charm. Vermont, with its iconic mountains and picturesque towns, immediately came to mind. POWDR manages some of Vermont's most beloved ski resorts, most notably Killington Resort and Pico Mountain. My recent trip focused heavily on these areas, and I wanted to see if they truly delivered on the 'adventure lifestyle' promise. Skiing and Snowboarding: Let's talk about the main event! Killington, often called the 'Beast of the East,' certainly lives up to its name. The sheer variety of terrain is incredible – from wide-open groomers perfect for carving to challenging mogul runs and glades that test your skills. I found the snowmaking capabilities to be top-notch, ensuring good coverage even when natural snowfall was a bit sparse. Pico, on the other hand, offered a more laid-back, family-friendly vibe, which was a nice contrast. It felt less crowded, and I appreciated the classic ski mountain atmosphere. If you're looking for diverse slopes, POWDR's Vermont properties definitely hit the mark. Beyond the Slopes: What truly makes a winter destination is what you can do after you've taken off your boots. Both Killington and Pico have solid offerings. I particularly enjoyed the snowshoeing trails around Killington, offering breathtaking views without the hustle and bustle of the slopes. There are also tubing parks, ice skating rinks, and plenty of opportunities for a relaxing spa day. The dining scene is vibrant, too, ranging from casual eateries to upscale restaurants perfect for an après-ski treat. I loved warming up with a hot chocolate by a roaring fire after a long day outside. Lodging and Amenities: POWDR-managed resorts offer a range of accommodation options, from slopeside condos to hotels. I found them to be well-maintained and convenient, though booking in advance, especially for peak season, is a must. The staff across the resorts were generally friendly and helpful, contributing to a positive overall experience. My Overall Evaluation: So, is POWDR a good choice for your Vermont winter travel? From my experience, absolutely! If you're passionate about skiing or snowboarding and appreciate a resort with extensive amenities, Killington is a fantastic option. For a slightly quieter, more traditional ski experience, Pico is excellent. They do a great job of cultivating an adventure lifestyle, offering more than just skiing. The cost can be a consideration, especially for families, but I felt the quality of the experience and the sheer amount of activities available made it a worthwhile investment for a memorable winter vacation. My biggest tip? Explore the pass options – sometimes a multi-resort pass can offer better value if you plan multiple trips or want to try both mountains.
