Boycotting hairstylists

I heard that you guys wanted a in-depth tutorial on how to bleach your knots. Well here it is! I got a 28 inch deep wave with 200% density from OQHair and let me tell you that this way is probably one of the most excited I’ve been to install in a while! I like to over bleach, my knots because it looks more realistic once you lay down that foundation.

... Read moreOkay, so you've heard about bleaching wig knots, and like me, you're probably aiming for that incredibly realistic, 'straight from the scalp' look. My original tutorial showed you exactly how I bleach those knots to perfection, even admitting I like to over bleach a bit to create that seamless foundation. But let's dive deeper into what 'before and after' really means, and how to master this game-changing technique for your wig installs! First, let's understand the 'before.' When you get a new wig, especially darker hair colors, you'll notice tiny black dots at the base of each hair strand where it's tied to the lace. These are the knots, and they can make your wig look… well, like a wig. They’re usually visible and can give away the artificial nature of your hairline. The goal of bleaching is to lighten these knots so they blend in with your skin tone, making it appear as if the hair is growing directly from your scalp. It truly is the secret sauce to elevate your wig game! Now, for the 'after' – this is where the magic happens. A perfectly bleached knot will be a light, almost translucent shade, effectively disappearing against your skin. Imagine looking at your scalp and seeing individual hairs without those dark dots. That's the effect we're going for! While I personally go a little lighter to create a really bright 'foundation' for my installs, for most, the key is to lighten just enough to remove the dark appearance without over-processing the hair strands themselves. Want to get the best 'after' results? Here are a few extra tips I've picked up along the way. Always do a strand test if you're unsure about the bleach strength or timing. Different lace types and hair textures can react differently. When mixing your bleach, aim for a consistency like thick paste – not too runny, or it might seep through the lace and bleach the hair itself, which we definitely want to avoid! And when applying, use a small tint brush and dab, don't brush. You want to cover the knots, not saturate the hair. One common mistake I see is leaving the bleach on for too long, or not neutralizing properly. If your knots turn a brassy orange or even green, don't panic! Orange usually means it needed a little more processing or a stronger developer. Green can happen if the bleach interacts poorly with residues or if it’s not properly toned/neutralized. A purple shampoo or toner can often help correct those unwanted tones and bring you closer to that perfect 'after' shade. Remember, patience is key. It's better to under-bleach and reapply for a few more minutes than to over-bleach and damage the lace or hair. After you rinse the bleach, it's crucial to wash and deep condition your wig. Bleaching is a chemical process, and even though it's just the knots, the lace and surrounding hair can still dry out. A good deep conditioning treatment will restore moisture and keep your wig feeling soft and looking fresh. This step is often overlooked but makes a huge difference in the longevity and overall appearance of your "after" result. So, next time you’re prepping for an install, remember the power of perfectly *bleached knots*. Comparing the 'before and after' will show you just how much a little effort can transform your wig from good to absolutely flawless. It's all about enhancing that natural illusion and making your wig truly undetectable!
