I’m a Trad wife but…..

You know, when I first started seeing all the 'Trad Wife' content online, I was captivated, just like many others. The perfectly organized homes, the elaborate meals, the constant 'put-together' look – it all seemed so aspirational. But as a SAHM myself, trying to navigate a work-from-home job and tackle daily life with a toddler, I quickly realized that what we see online is often a carefully constructed fantasy. My reality is far from that picture, and I'm sharing it because I know I'm not alone. My mornings, for instance, are rarely glamorous. While I'm up by 5 AM to get clocked in by 6 AM for my job, my husband heads off to work, and our son is often still asleep in our bed. This means our bed isn't always made right away – sometimes it stays rumpled until lunchtime! And don't even get me started on the kitchen. There are dishes in the sink sometimes, and I've learned to accept that a spotless kitchen 24/7 just isn't my reality. What helps me cope is having a 'reset' routine in the evening, a quick tidy-up before bed, and reminding myself that a lived-in home is a loved home. Then there's the whole 'looking your best' expectation. I've had to make peace with the fact that I don't always dress up and look my best. Most days, it's comfy clothes, minimal makeup (if any!), and a messy bun. There's so much pressure to appear effortlessly chic, even at home. But honestly, my priority is often getting my work done, taking care of my family, and maybe squeezing in a few minutes of self-care. A quick mirror selfie might be as 'dressed up' as I get, and that's okay! It's about what makes me feel good, not what meets an unrealistic social media standard. Our house isn't always picked up either. With a toddler, toys seem to multiply overnight, and our living space is constantly transforming into a play zone. I used to feel a pang of guilt every time I saw a perfectly curated home online. Now, I try to see the mess as a sign of a happy, active child. I've found that having designated 'mess zones' and doing a quick 10-minute tidy-up before bed makes a huge difference without adding undue stress. It's about finding a balance that works for your family, not striving for an unattainable ideal. So, to all the mamas out there, especially the new SAHMs, who feel like they're constantly falling short of social media's 'Trad Wife' image: you are doing amazing! Your reality, with its dishes, unmade beds, and constant toddler-induced chaos, is valid and incredible. Don't let those highlight reels dictate your worth. Embrace your perfectly imperfect life, find joy in the small moments, and know that you're building a loving home in your own unique way. You've got this!
