One of my favorite Valentine’s Day treats are Chocolate Covered Strawberries. I know every year I see them close to Valentine’s Day at the grocery store. They’re always so pretty, but the price is always a little too much for me. My fiancé and I also love edible arrangements, but sometimes that’s just not in the budget.
Since we are such big fans of chocolate covered fruit, we have learned how to do it at home! Since the holiday of love is right around the corner I thought I would share some of our tips and tricks with you!
1.) When you wash your Strawberries or fruit you want to drip. You want to make sure that the fruit is dry right before you dip it. You can use a paper towel to make sure the fruit is completely dry. This will help the chocolate stick to the fruit.
2.) Use a Cup cake pan and cup cake liners to have your berries chill in. This way you can easily package your strawberries later! I also think the liners makes them look more professional!
Do you like to dip your fruit yourself or purchase them!
... Read moreHey everyone! So glad you enjoyed my initial tips on making chocolate-covered strawberries at home. Since Valentine's Day is a time for showing love, I've had so many of you ask about how to make them extra special, maybe even for the amazing guys in your lives! My fiancé absolutely loved it when I whipped up a batch with his favorite colors, so I wanted to share some more advanced ideas for customizing these delicious treats, perhaps with a cool blue twist!
First off, let's talk about adding color. To get that vibrant blue, you'll need white chocolate (my go-to is usually Nestle Toll House white chocolate chips) and oil-based food coloring. Regular water-based food coloring will seize your chocolate, turning it clumpy and unusable – trust me, I learned that the hard way! Melt your white chocolate slowly, either in a double boiler or microwave, stirring frequently. Once smooth, add a few drops of blue oil-based food coloring until you reach your desired shade. You can even mix a little black food coloring for a deeper, more masculine navy blue. Then, you can dip your beautiful Driscoll's strawberries into this colored chocolate.
Now for decorations! Instead of the usual pink sprinkles, consider toppings that might appeal more to a guy. After dipping your strawberries in blue chocolate, you could drizzle them with dark chocolate for a sleek contrast. Or, before the blue chocolate sets completely, roll them in finely crushed nuts – think pecans or even salty pretzels for a sweet and savory crunch! Mini chocolate chips, like the ones from Nestle Toll House, also add a great texture without being overly "girly." For an extra touch, silver or blue edible glitter can make them look super sophisticated and special. I’ve even seen people use small edible gears or sports-themed sprinkles if you know his hobbies!
When it comes to the finished look, remember my tip about the Farberware cupcake pan? It's still a lifesaver! Once dipped and decorated, place them in cupcake liners within the pan. This helps them keep their shape during 'Chill Time' in the fridge, preventing them from sticking together. When they're 'Finished', you can present them on a cool, minimalist platter or even pack them into a stylish gift box. The presentation makes a huge difference!
Another fun idea for making them 'for men' is to consider adding subtle flavor twists to the dark chocolate. You could infuse a small amount of coffee extract, a tiny pinch of chili powder for a spicy kick, or even a few drops of bourbon extract (if it's for adults, of course!). Just be careful not to add too much liquid, as it can affect the chocolate's consistency.
Making these custom chocolate-covered strawberries is such a thoughtful gesture. It shows you put in the effort, and you can truly tailor them to the recipient's taste and style. So next time you're thinking of a gift, try making a batch of these personalized beauties. They're surprisingly easy, incredibly delicious, and guaranteed to impress!
