Over the years working with young people, one thing has become very clear to me.

Many young people we label as “troubled” are often simply growing up without the guidance, mentorship or support systems they need.

When the right people step in — mentors, community leaders, support workers — the trajectory of a young person’s life can change dramatically.

Sometimes the difference between struggle and success is simply having someone who believes in them.#viral #youth #parents #australia #Uk

... Read moreIn my experience working closely with young people, I've noticed that many who are branded as 'troubled' aren’t inherently bad; rather, they often lack essential guidance and support. It’s a common misconception that these youth choose a difficult path on their own. Instead, their environment and the absence of positive role models play a significant role in shaping their behavior. One profound lesson I've learned is the power of consistent and caring mentorship. When a mentor steps into a young person's life—not just to instruct but to truly believe in their potential—they can unlock confidence and motivation previously unseen. This kind of support helps youngsters envision a future beyond their current struggles. Community leaders and support workers also have a vital role in providing structure and encouragement. Whether it’s through after-school programs, counseling, or simply making time to listen, these efforts contribute to creating a safety net for youth who might otherwise feel isolated. I recall working with a teenager who was considered a 'problem child' by many. Once matched with a mentor who shared similar interests and provided steady encouragement, I witnessed a remarkable turnaround. The teen became more engaged in schoolwork, started setting personal goals, and ultimately began to rebuild self-esteem. This transformation isn’t rare; it’s a testament to how impactful positive intervention can be. Many young people labeled as 'troubled' are simply craving someone who believes they can succeed. Empowerment through mentorship and community support not only changes individual lives but can also ripple through families and neighborhoods, fostering hope and resilience. For anyone wanting to make a difference, the first step is to offer genuine belief in a young person's potential. Providing guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear can be life-changing—and sometimes, that’s all it takes to shift from struggle to success.
