Why can I only draw well at school

2024/8/30 Edited to

... Read moreIt's funny how creativity strikes in the most unexpected places, isn't it? Like the original post, I've often found my best drawing ideas and sketches come to life when I'm, well, supposed to be doing something else entirely – usually at school! I think there's something about the structured environment and even the boredom of certain classes that frees up a different part of my brain to just doodle. For me, it's not just about getting away with drawing; it's about how the limitations of school actually spark unique inspiration. Think about it: when you're stuck in a lecture, your mind starts to wander, and suddenly that complex math function equation on the board transforms into a potential abstract pattern. Or the lines from graphing instructions become the perfect grid for an intricate sketch line drawing art piece. It’s like my brain uses the academic structures as a launchpad for artistic freedom. I've discovered some amazing cool unique drawing ideas just by looking around my classroom. Sometimes it's sketching my classmates (discreetly, of course!) or turning everyday objects like pens and textbooks into elaborate designs. I remember once, I was doodling a hand-drawn chimpanzee head in the margins of my notes, and it just came out so well! It felt like the pressure of the upcoming test somehow channeled into making that drawing perfect, almost like giving it an '8/10' score for effort despite being off-topic. If you're looking for drawing inspiration that fits into your school day, try these easy designs to draw: Doodle Art: Start with simple geometric shapes and connect them, or create repeating patterns. Graph paper is fantastic for this! Object Transformation: Pick a random object on your desk – a stapler, a ruler, a crumpled paper – and try to draw it in three different styles: realistic, cartoonish, and abstract. "What If" Scenarios: Imagine what your teacher would look like as an animal, or what your backpack would do if it came alive. These lead to some really fun and full page drawing with colour if you get a chance later! Nature in the Classroom: Look out the window or at any plant in the room. Even a simple leaf can become a detailed simple outline drawing for kids if you focus on its veins and edges. One of my favorite challenges is doing 30 days of sketching but only using materials found in my school bag – pens, pencils, highlighters, and the occasional spilled coffee stain (oops!). It forces you to be resourceful and can lead to some surprisingly good drawings. Don't be afraid to experiment with different textures and shades using just a ballpoint pen. Who knows, maybe your next masterpiece will start as a tiny doodle on a forgotten school paper!

I have a love-hate relationship with these. These sketches can fit certain aesthetics SO well, but they require so much brainpower to do. There’s gotta be an easier way to draw the ones on the back than just “following” through with each one, but i havent found it lmao so here’s my method. Also t

How I Draw Hands That Are Holding an Object
Using the object as a point of reference is just another way to get more accurate placements of the fingers and palm (you can use anything that’s in your reference photo and on your drawing). So for example: when I map out the fingers on the top hand, how far does the pointer finger extend to? Of
