📚 Fake Dates and Mooncakes 🥮

By Sher Lee

⭐️Rating: 4/5

📖 Plot:

Dylan, who helps at his aunt’s Chinese restaurant by delivering takeout, unexpectedly finds himself fake-dating Theo, a wealthy heir. At the same time, he enters a mooncake contest to honor his late mother. Between mooncakes, family ties, and cultural traditions, romance begins to bloom.

💭 Thoughts:

The romance between Theo and Dylan flowed so naturally. Not too overwhelming, not underwhelming, just right for me. I really anticipated their confession the whole time. What I loved most though was how rich the story is in family relationships, like Dylan’s dedication to his mom through mooncakes and the heartfelt letters on them. The folklore of Chang’e and Hou Yi woven into the story added a layer of cultural depth that I adored (I’m a sucker for folklore!).

This book was heartwarming. It almost made me tear up, especially during the mooncake contest scenes. The reunion meaning behind Mid-Autumn Festival was beautifully conveyed. It also made me reminisce about my own childhood memories of Mid-Autumn, when neighbors gathered outdoors with tea, mooncakes, sparklers, and lanterns. Nowadays the festival feels quieter, and reading this made me long for that sense of community again.

💫 Conclusion:

I would rate this a 4/5 ⭐️. While the plot was somewhat expected and lacked a bit of dynamic tension, the writing was heartfelt and nostalgic. A warm, sweet read that truly captures the spirit of love, family, and Mid-Autumn Festival. 🥮🌕✨
